i was under the impression that he was using the standard tapping technique, which is cool and even better if used tastefully and creatively, but this is a totally different style of tapping... must have taken a long time to master

It's a mixture of what that guy does and actual guitar playing. Though more the actual guitar playing then what this guy does.
