I don't think he deserves a metal. If we gave out metals for these types of things people would be handing out thier own justice everywhere.

Vigilantism is wrong. It's a crime in of itself. It threatens our rights and freedoms more than most other crimes. So it should be taken very seriously. I'm not going to say I wouldn't do the same thing if I was in his shoes. But If I did it, I would do it with knowing that I could get life in prison and I would expect it to be treated as a first degree murder.

I also agree with Opperator that I would at least wait until the end of his trail. I'm sure I would be a bit more smart about it. Wait for the trail to end, wait a few years for everything to just simmer down, that way nobody would suspect who did it. Besides a boy needs his Father with him and not in prision, especially after what he has been through. And as a parent you have to be responsible, get control of your emotions, set aside your feelings, and do whats right for your family. If this man did go to prison for killing the suspect, his son would be even more fucked up.

Murder in this case of the pedophile was the only course of action. Could have been a bad shot, the shooter could have hurt someone else, but over all right on.

Sometimes the justice system just doesnt work fast enough. Sex offenders dont get life, most of the time just maybe 3-5 years in prison. Now him taking justice into his hands... The father killed a man. That man abducted and possibly sexually abused his son. Possibly, not did. There was no proof that this could have happened, it was an assumtion. The father overreacted, definitley wasn't thinking, thought with emotions before common sense. Of course, murder does not solve anything. But, it can really save your ass. Just, not in this case.

maybe the reason he only got 5yrs probation is due to jurors like posters here believing that he got what he deserved?, i think that he should have been trialed on whether or not his crime was pre-meditated (which it obviously was) he waited for him, and pulled the trigger. (thats murder), instead of whether or not he deserved it. (if people started killing everyone they hated cause they think they diserved it there would not be too many people left).

he should have taken the high-road.

If this guy had missed and killed/injured someone innocent I bet you wouldnt be so enthusiastic. No all situations are as clear cut as this, what if the info was wrong, what if you were wrongfully accused of molesting someone and got shot before you could be exhonerated?

Reminds me of a poor 20 year old guy who did a year for stat rape for sleeping with his 17 year old girl friend and then got shot dead by a person who got his name from a peodophile web site. But I guess you all support that too.

On a very deep psychological level you will find that the father acted selfishly.
Every single one of us would want to kill the guy in his place and most of us don't feel too sorry that he got killed.

but. . . the father was consumed with pain and sorrow for the suffering of his son. His motivation for the killing was to get some satisfactin for himself and his pain. His motivation was not to benefit his son as he had alreaded suffered the kidnap and molestation. The guy just could'nt bear the pain and the thought of what happened to his son (understandable) he thought if he kills the guy he will feel better (and probably did).
What price was the guywilling to pay though to assuage his own pain? He was willing to go to prison for who knows how many years just at the time when his son needed him most to be around. That is why he was selfish.
As terrible and painful as it would be, an unselfish man would bear the pain with no possiblily of releif or satisfaction for the sake of being able to be around to take care of his son.

He didnt know that he would practically get off, though maybe he gambled but even gambling with your sons future (being able to be around or not), for the sake of a chance to feel satisfaction, is selfish.

Having said that, selfishness in such a moment is probably more understandable than any other moment in lifes experience. Plus, he got to have his cake and eat it in a sense cause he blew the guy away 'and' got to be around for his son.
In some strange way also, his son will probably feel good about how far his dad was willing to go to protect him and that no mo fo will mess with him again. ;)

Well graffixjones, I'm guessing the father talked to his son about it and his son told him that the kidnapper sexually abused him. The father would not have shot him unless he had some kind of firm evidence that the kidnapper did indeed molest his son.

The dad was probably too emotionally distressed after missing his son for so long, and then on top of that hearing reports of his child being molested. He probably did not think twice about it, and went off to kill that bastard.

I would have waited till he got out of jail then shoot him to death. He would have to face years in hell and when he is finally released i would kill him which would send him to a dark place (hell or w/e you believe in) because of his crime giving him no break for eternity. Yes I am evil.

The guy was caught in a far away state with the boy. The boy was sent back home. Maybe if the boy was sixteen and messed up you dont know what lies the might tell to hide their own embarassment but a ten year odl kid isn't gonn skip off with his karate teacher. The dad will believe his boy when he tells his dad what happened.
So sure he shouldn't have executed the guy but get off it with all this 'alledged' stuff.
The dad didnt execute him based on logical legal proceedings, he did it knowing that they guy betrayed his trust in him as his karate teacher and kidnapped and probably buggered his son most likely messing him up for life.

I'm thankful that we have a Justice system in my country that doesn't yield or capitulate at the first sign of the mob assembling ready to burn people at the mere mention of wrong doing.

Case in point.

Would I have shot the guy who I knew for a fact molested my son? Not if I truly loved my son. Would I have been a hero for murdering another person? Of course I wouldn't. Would it have made things any more right in world? No. Did it solve anything? No. Did he just compound the problems facing his son? Yes. On top of all the shit that just happened to him, now he'll be without a father too because he'll be in jail. Way to go dad.

Will his son respect him more for killing another man in cold blood, no matter what that person may have done to him, or will his son now look at his dad as "A murderer"? Now when all the other kids at school bring in their parents on "Father and Son day", this kid can bring in a photo of his dad in an orange jump suit and be proud that his dad is in Jail because he murdered the man that molested him. Could his father ever again say anything to his son about morality or values or right from wrong knowing that he'd be the biggest fucking hypocrite walking because he murdered another man in cold blood? Probably not.

The point is, that this guy you sycophants are all hailing as a hero just let a single moment of rage and selfishness further hurt his own son whom he probably loved beyond words. In the end, he solved nothing, and created a whole slew of other problems. I feel sorry for that young boy, his family, and everyone involved.

Everything isn't as black and white as some of you people would have the rest of the world believe. Saying the guy is a hero for shooting another person in cold blood, regardless of the heinous shit he may have done, is what is absolutely wrong with this world. But feel free to bury this comment too so that you can pretend that it makes you more right.

I must say like most of you Id want to do the same as he did to the man who hurt his lad, but Im not sure it was the right thing to do to be honest.

I do think what that man did was selfish and here is why.

This is just something a parent does. We consider how our actions will affect our kids. instead of showering his son with the love of his family after that disgusting monster probably robbed that kid of his innocence and messed him up in the head, he goes off and in a rage guns him down in cold blood.

If he would have actually considered how his actions would have affected his son compounded on top of everything else that was happening at the time, he would have seen how bad a decision it was. He needed his revenge. I bet the kid just wanted to be loved, and would have been fine if the man who molested him was caught, tried in court, and sentenced to a lifetime in prison or even death for his actions. But no, his dad had to take the law into his own hands, and by doing that, deprived his son of a father during the single most crucial time in his life when his son needed him the most.

So yeah, I think it was fullfilling his own selfish need for revenge. I doubt highly that his son applauded his dad after he pulled the trigger. It probably only horrified the poor kid even more knowing his dad was now guilty of murder, no matter how you spin it.

That son of a bitch pedophile should have been locked up in jail for the rest of his life to rot, or given the death penalty. That would have been the obvious outcome if vigilante dad had of thought of his son first, and not his own desire for vengance.

Thats just how I see it as a Dad. I even asked my son this question today, just to make sure I wasn't totally deluded. I asked him if it would be OK for his dad to shoot and kill another man even if that man had hurt him and tried to take him away from us. Would it be ok for his dad to get even with the man by killing him for what he did.

I know I'm raising my son right because he looked right at me and without hesitating said

"No daddy, killing people is bad. And you would go to jail for that, and I don't want you to go to jail."

And that really is all there is to say about that.
