That's just a video defect.

Notice how loose his shirt is, and how strangely bulky his upper torso is when he 's sawed in half. He's contorting his legs either up and over the back of his shoulder or down and under his chest.

The legs could be a robotic prop or it could be another actor contorting to fit inside the bottom of the table.

I saw a documentary on him where he talked about this trick, he didn't explain how he did it. He did say that the first night he did it some drunk in the crowd yelled for him to move his legs, which he could do since they were robotic legs. From that night forward he planted an actor in the crowd that would ask him to move his legs.

Every day, he was gradually cut with a saw, for about 10 years, until his body was used to it, and could seperate on demand. This isnt so much magic, as fine body tuning.

Seen this trick before.....i think he probably has his real legs tucked in the table under his chest, it looks quite thick if you notice...he probably had to do a bit of yoga so that his posture looked as natural as possible....and those fake legs are robotically controlled.

I think it was a great illusion.. and as for a hollyowood set, he has done this at his live performances also, so the audience isn't jsut paid to react to it...

Very talented guy Mr.Copperfield is.
