Yesterday, when Chinese President Hu Jintao attended an official welcome ceremony on the White House lawn, a Falun Gong protestor, on top of a camera stand, screamed for tolerance of the Falun Gong movement.
Wenyi Wang, 47, apparently gained access with a temporary White House pass and had been cleared by security.
She screamed for Bush to stop Hu persecuting the followers of Falun Gong.
President Bush during his speech, urged president Hu “to allow the Chinese people the freedom to assemble, to speak freely and to worship”.
It seems that freedom of speech is not only an issue for China, Wang was immediately detained by the Secret Service and faces charges of disorderly conduct and intimidating or disrupting foreign officials.
The talks between Bush and Hu were mainly about the trade deficit and the forming of a plan towards resolving the Iran issue. Although Bush pressured Hu, Hu did not formulate any new plans.
Bush said, “We don't agree on everything but we are able to discuss our disagreements in friendship and cooperation.”
