Reminds me of how George best (footballer in England) got a liver transplant purely because he was famous.The guy drank up to and after his operation and eventually died; complete waste of a liver. Some peoples lives are valued more than others i guess. Sad really.

So what are the other parts of his denial for a liver transplant? If the reasons are supposed to be confidential, then how do they know about the marijuana angle? (The patient or a family member told them, obviously.) And how come they don`t tell us (the media) the other reasons? Tell us EXACTLY why this guy was denied or just shut the fuck up.

While I`m in favor of legalizing pot, and not just for medical use, "news" stories like this drive me crazy because they are obviously pushing a point of view instead of reporting the facts. I really wish you people had the critical thinking skills to question even those things which appear to support your own point of view.

That this story is leaving out some major facts is glaringly obvious.

Umm I have to side with the doctors here, I doubt medical marijuana is the reason he was denied a liver transplant it is far more likely because of the hep c. A new liver wouldn`t cure him and I am guessing his time would have been short even with the transplant.

It`s not an easy decision for the doctors I am sure but given the lack of available livers and the people that need them they have to prioritise.

Listen to the story...the safety of pot has nothing to do with it. As Choix points out, Hepatitis C all by itself can be a rather potent reason for somebody to be denied a liver transplant. Frankly, I doubt his smoking pot in the past had crap to do with it...they simply wanted to make it an issue and the media was all too willing to oblige with a story that wantonly omitted critical information about the man`s condition and neglected to mention anything about how donor organs are doled out to the excess of patients requiring them.
