Absolutely excellent. As an atheist, I celebrate the amazing reality of what`s around me. Whatever it is, it is there, and I love it! Wow, a lifetime of amazement. Just things as they are, no grand excuses required.

Better to enjoy not knowing, and celebrate the absolute sheer vastness, the true deeper mystery of reality, than feebly clinging to ridiculous petty answers out of insecurity and ignorance.

We have to admit that we do not know the origins of the universe or life, and the meaning of everything. Such things are so vast and so distant from us that they are likely to be unknowable. We are lucky to even grasp plausible answers to such mysteries, and we should be contented to understand that "something along such and such lines" probably happened.

Does anyone have the full speech or text that Dawkins began to read at the begining. I liked where that was going.

i think if anyone can watch that and still be so antagonistic towards atheists with thinking that we can "celebrate nothing" etc., they need to just go ahead and join the clan cause that`s the only place their hate mongering will be wanted.

"God was invented to explain mystery. God is always invented to explain those things that you do not understand. Now, when you finally discover how something works, you get some laws which you`re taking away from God; you don`t need him anymore. But you need him for the other mysteries. So therefore you leave him to create the universe because we haven`t figured that out yet; you need him for understanding those things which you don`t believe the laws will explain, such as consciousness, or why you only live to a certain length of time—life and death—stuff like that. God is always associated with those things that you do not understand. Therefore I don`t think that the laws can be considered to be like God because they have been figured out." -Feynman

I like the argument that we`re all made of stars, yet the reverse is far more awe inspiring. A living cell is infinitely more complex than a star. Those unimaginable giant space formations have nothing over living creatures, let alone humans.

Also there should be a law that allows atheists to celebrate every religious holiday on the planet. I don`t mind loitering at all.

Christmas isnt about Jesus anymore, so there`s no reason why atheists cant celebrate it.

It`s all about consumerism; something atheist and christians can enjoy together!

So STFU and buy some more crap!

hogo, judging by his suit and the background, search:

"Richard Dawkins - The speech on Darwin in London - 6 June 2009"

on YouTube and you will find what you are looking for.

@funberg
God was invented by superstitious people who did not have the means or will to figure things out so they made the excuse "god did it" and "but while we are at it, lets make it work in our favor"
*god* is a very bad metaphor for the unknown
because its too much related to religion and laziness.

@ archentar
Atheist have and will continue to answer your questions
just people don`t seem to listen and are to lazy to go on Google and look the answers up themselves.

Reality on a quantum level is far from the reach of the human imagination and can only be reached by mathematical equations which at the end of the day are intangible. The very fact that I probably will never know the true nature of nature itself is what brings a smile to my face. Everything I feel, see, and experience is grand. Reality itself is awe inspiring.

Aside from the holidays bit, "life has no meaning"? We "have nothing to live for"?

Bull shit, as an atheist, I have nothing to die for maybe, no afterlife to go to, no ultimate destination, which is why I have everything to live for. It`s people who believe in an afterlife that have nothing to live for. If someone truly believes (not just says they believe) that a "better" existence alongside god awaits them after death, then why wait?? Reality is brutal and unforgiving, but I will make the utmost of it since it`s all I have.

There is so much to be thankful for in life, why waste praise on a God when all we need is right here.

Love all the fruity language, very tasty, but the correct answer here is "I`m not an atheist, I just don`t believe in your bullshit."

And if the corollary follows: "Then what are you?" The answer is "... I`m not impressed by your bullshit."

Labels. It`s labels I`m getting at. Theists want to label you as nothing more than the opposite of themselves, and you`re letting them. Try Secular or Humanist, or better yet - create your own word for you. Off the top of your head. I`m a... Hippocampite.
