Scientist Fired For Telling the Truth Ab...

The U.K. Government`s Chief Advisor on Drugs Policy Professor David Nutt was fired after he revealed that alcohol and tobacco were more dangerous than cannabis and ecstasy, which is proven by scientific analysis. Prof.David Nutt believes Govt are deliberately ignoring evidence. Scientific evidence and health records prove that alcohol causes more damage to the liver and brain, and 90 thousand people are killed by alcohol-related diseaes in the U.S. and U.K. combined each year. Drink driving accounts for 30 to 40 percent of all road deaths Worldwide. Tobacco smoking also causes 15 million deaths per year-(80 000 in England alone)- from lung cancers and other diseases, compared with the average of 7 deaths caused by ecstasy per year (average taken from over a ten year period). Cannabis is a non-toxic substance, meaning it cannot kill because it is not a potent poison. Alcohol kiils more than 5 times the amount of people than all drugs combined.

Although I agree that alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than cannabis and extacy, I must say that the number of death related to the substance is irrelevant, because tobacco and alcohol are so widely used and extacy is so marginal that the figures cannot be compared.

^ I`m pretty sure they would have looked at the RELATIVE numbers, as anything else would be pointless.

That number of deaths isn`t irrelevant when you look at the number and the number, even when not looked at relatively is so massive of a difference, as in there are no one dying from E or pot, and millions of people dying from cigs and booze.

I`m willing to bet that no one has died from E directly, but rather from other things inside the drug.

This is another example of how politicians are useless because they deal in opinion and not scientific fact.

If it’s not the numbers that make you believe they are less dangerous, then how did you come to that conclusion? Trial and error? lol

This is outrageous! This man was fired for offering an opinion, one that he was paid to give! The debate shouldn`t be about how many people die because of E and weed, but how the politicians are able to get away with this kind of crap.

Well, to see the link, I look at medical studies. You`ll develop lung cancer with pot and cigarette, because you inhale smoke. All the other chemicals present in cigarettes and not in pot makes the cigarettes way more dangerous.

Driving drunk and driving high are two stupid things one can do, but as the usage of pot is less generalised, it is difficult to see which one is worse.

No studies have ever been done on a regular consumption of pot and E with the massive doses and the timespan that are used to test alcohol and tobacco users.

The whole point I want to make is that E and pot are drugs, as are cigarettes and alcohol. The debate should not be about which one is the most dangerous, they all are in some degree. The debate should be: why some drugs are legal and widely accepted and others, in the same range of effet and damage to your health, aren`t.

To be honest, if a drug isn`t massively addictive then I think it should be legal. If people want to smoke pot and do E then let them. It`s not your job to tell people how to run their lives unless it gets proven that the drug has massive social burdens as well. It`s current accepted that something like heroin gets you so addicted you`ll do just about anything to sustain the habit. So they say heroin causes crime.

But so far as I know pot and E aren`t all that chemically addictive. Which only makes them about as dangerous as masturbation, at least to society at large. They may very well be extremely unhealthy, but if people KNOW the health risks and do it anyway...then I hope it was worth it for them and I don`t much care beyond that.

@Charest Hey numbnuts, where`d you get your information from? Your asshole? You cannot definitively say that you will get cancer from pot. There is no evidence for that statement.

Quote from a review of medical studies: "Components of cannabis smoke minimize some carcinogenic pathways whereas tobacco smoke enhances some."

^^ It`s funny that you quote that particular line, because the next sentence reads:

"Both types of smoke contain carcinogens and particulate matter that promotes inflammatory immune responses that may enhance the carcinogenic effects of the smoke."

@Dirt Digger You have to read the whole article. Which you obviously did not. “may” in the statement you cherry-picked out is used to denote conjecture. It does not debunk my previous post.

"Furthermore, compounds found in cannabis have been shown to kill numerous cancer types including: lung cancer [9], breast and prostate [10], leukemia and lymphoma [11], glioma [12], skin cancer [13], and pheochromocytoma [14]. The effects of cannabinoids are complex and sometimes contradicting, often exhibiting biphasic responses."

Educated people generally don’t write statements that contradict themselves, especially not in succession. And the authors did not do so here as you were insinuating.

Carcinogens are everywhere. In gum, nalgene bottles, bread, coffee, ect… And if you know anything about biology, you’d know that the development of cancer requires more than the simple introduction of a carcinogen. A deficient immune response is required, as well as the promotion/inhibition of multiple metabolic cascades. That’s why not all cigarette smokers get cancer. This is also the reason in vivo studies are better than in vitro. Do you understand?

Like it has been said before, the real issue isn`t the drugs, it`s the fact that the government have ignore scientific evidence with no good reason, apart from we think its bad so it is!!! This is outrageous as it is no better than the church crippling scientific development during the dark ages.

^ Cannabis basically has no lethal side effects. Seriously. BUT, and this is a very big but for me and I cannot lie, long usage makes brain efficiency reduction permanent.

So, if you`re stupid you`re gonna stick to tobacco and get cancer, but if you`re not stupid you`re gonna smoke cannabis and get stupid. Catch 22.

Moderation is key, people. Or stop smoking all together, stop acting like douches, and stop bitching about making illegal drugs legal (it`s not as if you can`t get them anyway).

I’m not trying to advocate pot here. I don’t even like the stuff. But come on Vizreel spreading rumors about brain-damage is exactly what the politicians are doing.

“Although there are signs of mild cognitive impairment in chronic cannabis users there is little evidence that such impairments are irreversible”

This just reminds me of the big documentary about ecstasy, and the official in there (drug czar type guy) who said:

"(words to this effect) They had to make E illegal because we can`t have people thinking that recreational drug use can be acceptable."

Even though recreational drug use is perfectly normal, acceptable, and NECESSARY for most people`s mental health.

I think that our perverse drug policies are the perfect proof of the complete failure of our modern societies. ANY sane government system that represents the public, instead of narrow corporate interests, will pursue a health based policy to deal with the damage of the dangerous drugs, and INSIST on absolute freedom for people as the fundamental inalienable starting point of all just social policy.

What we have now, by contrast, are a bunch of autocrats who see it as their purview to herd us as sheep. We are nothing but the laboring masses to be harvested for their continued enrichment. They argue that it is for our own benefit, and that their noble efforts to guide us earn them their luxury at our collective expense.

The truth is that good drugs expand your mind, enrich your perspective and knowledge. THAT is the real threat to those few that control us. We who learn will not blindly do what we are told.

Fuck it. Eat the rich. You can learn a lot from good drugs.
