Creationists Are Like Holocaust Deniers

Richard Dawkins uses denial of the Holocaust as an analogy for the battle against the theory of evolution being waged in public schools by creationists.

Teach the controversy? What controversy? There is no controversy. One is based on science and belongs in the science classes and the other is not.

Gravity is just a theory too. I more than welcome anyone to head to the roof of a building and put that theory to the test.

The majority of people watch the most bullshit shows and buy bullshit magazines about "stars" or other retards.

You think they actually think about science? PLEASE.

Is it really fair to compare a set of believers to a set of non-believers? I guess if you take this into the context of Christians denying the theory of evolution it makes sense, but even with the new species that they have just uncovered, they are not entirely sure that it is one of our ancestors. Assuming that this "missing link" has not yet been proven to tie us to our ape counterparts, there is no historical documentation supporting this subject. On the other hand, there is plenty of material on the subject of the Holocaust as well as survivors of the event.

I don`t know...

^ The idea of one "missing link" is a misnomer idoubtit.

DNA and a mountain of other science already prove the link...we are now, and currently have always been, apes.

The new fossil (ardi) is just another of the massive number of transitory species that existed between "full man" and "old ape".

Evolution is fact, it just also happens to be explained by a theory called natural selection. Same as Gravity.

Religious people like to conflate "theory" with "hypothesis"

I can`t stand that some of the super christians don`t accept science to be true, and proven over and over again, when they say "a magic man done it"

Scientific Theory- A body of knowledge using controlled-variable experimental methods to construct a formal and mathematically structured system. It studies the character of natural reality.

Theory - a: a hypothesis assumed for the sake of argument or investigation b: an unproved assumption

they`re not the same thing. but do you really expect ignorant and superstitious sheep to know the difference before actually arguing something? The less they know, the better. as far as they`re concerned

I really think Richard is fishing for comparisons here and really trying to dig up some animosity. It`s to bad Richard Dawkins can`t stop asking people to do what he can`t do. Which is stop believing in something you can`t see.

^ You said it better than I did. My comment wasn`t meant to be of the "creation trumps evolution" flavour. I just felt the same way phierce does. It really felt like Richard Dawkins was reaching for something quite outrageous here to stir things up.

Dawkins` goal is to clarify scientific process and fact to millions of people around the world who have been educated incorrectly or not at all. None of what he says is actually controversial, the resistance is entirely within organizations that have no actual relevance to the scientific community.

Comparing creationists to holocaust deniers is a big deal, but it is not outrageous, as you put it. It is the same kind of politically-motivated propaganda that encourages both groups of people.

Dwight Eisenhower (the Supreme Allied Commander in WW2) was actually trying to prevent this type of denial. When concentration/death camps were discovered all over Germany, Eisenhower actually had many large groups of his soldiers visit the camps and see exactly what happened.

This served as both a reminder of why they were fighting against the Nazi`s as well as to avoid any future attempts to deem it a "conspiracy."

I agree with Dawkins. People, today, who deny all the evidence of evolution and natural selection and cling to the bible for "truth" are no better than those who deny all the evidence of the holocaust and cling to conspiracies for their "truth."
