That`s very basic math. He has $2.35 + the 2 quarters. He takes out the guys amount since he`ll be using it to add back to make his original $2.35.

I doubt this fooled Einstein if it didn`t fool me.

^yeah, but in real life he`s not gonna have enough quarters for him to say, "plus 2 quarters". and if you have more than $2.85, he won`t be able to say that he has as much as you at all.

koryo, the trick never fooled Einstein, it`s just a way of setting the trick up to put a pre-assumption in the victim`s mind that they aren`t clever enough to work it out. Otherwise there`s the risk that they`ll think about it and see that it`s just maths. But, of course, if it already fooled one of the greatest minds ever, they`ve got no hope!
