Immoral. When I heard it, I got revolted, because it`s true.

It amazes me that we are actually debating this stuff in the 21st century. Why do we even entertain these fairy tales? It`s actually an insult to our intelligence. Telling children about Hell is one of the most immoral things I can think to do to somebody who is young and has a fragile mind.

Religion should be treated as a mental illness.

i dont mind the debate so much, and i can understand how people would want to stick to their.... traditions. But this notion that religion is immune to scrutiny and discussion on scientific terms is nothing short of disgusting.

teaching religion to children is nothing short of immoral, and at worst is child abuse.

All of my reading of Dawkins` work makes me occasionally forget how great Hitchens can be. Great post.

5/5 for anything Chris...

If you guys really want to get disgusted..look up "Hell House" and watch the trailer and read about the building from which they herd kids in from one room to another with a so called demon tour guide..

I wanted to throw up the 1st time I heard about this...

I absolutely loathe Dinesh D`Souza (the idiotic fellow in the first several seconds). I wholly approve of Hitchens slapping him silly.

really? more religious shit? its getting old. It`s getting kind of boring seeing all this religion bashing. there are few actual religious people that view this website so all of us are just reinforcing our disbelief in any of this crap by posting more videos like this. Don`t get me wrong, I agree with what he says, its just tired. It`s really almost as bad as preaching, trying to teach the ignorant why they have been brainwashed.....they have been brainwashed BECAUSE they are ignorant.

History is filled with "thinking people" who embraced Christianity. People that may even be smarter/more accomplished than Christopher Hitchens, as hard as that may be for some of you to imagine. He maintains that Christianity can`t be believed by a thinking person, yet many of history`s greatest scientists and mathematicians were Christians...unless Hitchens doesn`t consider them thinking people.

And he stoops to the talking point that the idea of hell has devastated the lives and peace of mind of countless children. The only time you see this is on these fringe fundy youtoube videos. I was never scarred about hell and out of all the Christians I`ve ever met, I have yet to meet one. And Hitchens is using the same argument that he accuses Christians of using. He bashes Christians for believing in God b/c it makes them feel good, yet he argues against God b/c it makes him feel disgusted.

And that challenge he poses doesn`t prove anything. Sure you won`t find atheists blowing up buildings in the name of Allah but you won`t find religious people killing for anti-theism as was done in the French Revolution. So there are evil actions an atheist can comit that a religious person won`t. It goes both ways.

Also, when Hitcens points to God intervening thru a human sacrifice in a remote part of Palestine, it really shows the humble beginnings of Christianity. Seems amazing that the death of one person in a remote place could build following of over 1 billion and still be in strong force 2,000 years later...if not initiated by God himself. Jesus was no royal king; he was poor. Yet look at how wide spread his message is. I don`t know of many lies that stand the test of time like that, almost seems like there`s something else at work.

This video should have shown D`Souza`s rebuttals. Even Hitchens admits he`s a very formidable opponent. Hitchens has even said if he could find a way to bribe D`Souza to debate for atheism, he`s confident D`Souza could do just as well as Hitchens.

I`ve seen a miracle. When I was young (about 6) I went on a father/child retreat to big bear lake in California. On the first night we had a large bonfire going while we were singing praise songs that sort of stuff. A little girl bit older then me (about 10) was sitting in the front closest to the fire. She went to get up and tripped falling straight into the large fire. Some of the dads rushed in to get her but she already been in the fire for a few seconds. Once they pulled her out she was fine. No burns, no singed hairs, no charring of her clothes. His arguments are fine, but once you`ve seen the unexplainable there`s no turning back. Believe what you want, but my dad and I saw it with our own fucking eyes as did 25 other people.

^lol.. because physics doesn`t apply to Christians. You were 6, I bet you remember it well. As for your dad, if he is up for singing praise songs with you, he is probably up for exaggerating what happened to you as well. Small fire, not much flame, unburned logs on top, she was wet from the lake, no flame, exaggerated time frame, minor burns you didn`t know about are all quick reasons that I can think of that this unlikely event could have occurred.

^^ it was at night in the fall so she wasn`t wet, the flames were taller then me so no under burnt logs, and lots of people can remember things very vividly from that age. (oh this was in 1990 so no youtube or small digital cameras sorry)
