I wish more people would take more interest in the stars and the universe.

It gives me a new perspective whenever I go out star gazing. It makes you realize how utterly insignificant all of the problems we have are.

We are just a puny spec of dust floating in an infinite black. And yet we have the audacity to believe we are everything that matters. We fight over whose invisible man in the sky is right, and over minute amounts of natural resources and land. In the end if our planet was destroyed tomorrow nothing else would change in the universe.

All of the great and horrible things mankind has done, from walking on the moon and curing diseases to the many wars we fight mean absolutely nothing to the universe.

When you look up at night and see a star twinkling you are looking back in time, hundreds of millions of years. Chances are the star you are looking at doesn`t even exist anymore.

Thanks for this video.

I know that this site is called Spiked HUMOR but its videos like this that make me love this site. And its comments like the one above that give me hope for humanity. Not everybody in the world is selfish and ignorant.

But, we`ll probably get a nice ignorant comment below spouting off some religious nonsense that once again reminds me of how F`ed up the world really is.

Christianity doesn`t question but it encourages scientific thought. We have all however been effected by the perversion of Christianity by the Catholic Papacy. The act of censorship based in the early church and our early society. Ignorance is to blame however without people like Martin Luther and other pioneers the Roman Catholic Church would have continued to mute those voices. Thank you for the video but please understand some of the greatest thinkers of all time still believed in a One God. To blame Christianity or any religion for keeping enlightenment from you is like blaming the Holocaust on the Jews. Blame corrupt governments who use religion to further their gains.

Thank you

3 days ago, Bill Nye lectured my astronomy class. He`s a pretty funny guy along with being a good lecturer. I guess he stops by every year. But something that my astronomy professor pointed out is with the increasing light pollution, the amount of star gazing people can do with the naked eye is quickly dwindling, leading to what is essentially, the end of night. I think National Geographic ran a special on this.

yea the stars and the universe are completely spectacular and impressive, its one of the reasons why i visit the country on occasions and go camping.. and im talking about the deep woods, the no-man lands.. Out there the only light you`ll get is campfire and moonlight, and nothing beats having a beer, and looking up to all that nightly glory!

Seemed like nice video at first, but then the narrator started preaching about the evils of religion and superstition, and how it has prevented real science from reaching the general public.

C`mon now, even the vatican has it`s own observatory and they also have one of the larges meteor collections in the world. They actually do real science there, imagine that.

Religion does in fact hinder scientific discovery. Look at stem cell research. Look at Galileo, look at Socrates.

Look at the people who preach intelligent design, the same people who say humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time no more than 6000 years ago. And they teach that dribble to kids.
