This is scientifically accurate.

Plutonium like this can be handled without gloves; it will feel warm to the touch due to the radiated particles emitted with the decay but the particles cant penetrate skin.

However, if too much plutonium is brought together it causes a criticality accident and unleashes huge amounts of deadly radiation along with a big blue flash.
