so why is lobbying not illegal in the US? i think in most countries if any money from private companies came near a politician there`d be a huge scandal, the pollie would have to resign immediately and possibly face jail time.

it happened a few years ago with paul martin our old prime minister . A minister smuggled evidence to the police showing money transfers from private companies to a group associated with his party .
