I call bullshit man this whole story is sad but misleading. Those people are totally self sufficient...they live by the fucking ocean. In no way shape or form should these people be hungry! You go to the beach to fish not sell your body. It`s just more unbeleivable to me that kids in a hot tourist spot don`t sell merchandise...i mean pretty much every island i`ve ever been to the kids are ripping off the tourists, not getting raped. Sounds more like innocent mommy and daddy need to get locked up....i mean do you really think these kids just got raped and PAID? 500 pounds at that....obviously an arrangement. Anyway, sad story, good luck to the kids, kill the person that made you do it!

^^ i totally agree if they really DO make money from it, save a little and LEAVE THE COUNTRY. Or like you said find a different way to get food, water and shelter, its obviously hard for them but NOT impossible. Its seems like its mostly their fault for not taking initiative to do something else, but the parents probably play a roll in some cases

ok, you guys are blowing my mind, did you watch the same story i did?.

desparate people will do anything to survive and although the parents may have not been as forceful in protecting their children as we would like from our culture and background it doesn`t work like that everywhere - many tourist destinations also have a seedy underbelly of prostition reguardless of how well the community is making in merchandise.

i can see your point at wanting to point the finger at the parents for greed and perhaps even Coercion, but in the process don`t forget the true perpetrators of this appalling crime - the tourists themselves.

they are hardy making profit from this as one girl went with 2 tourists for a total of £15.

and 40% of the villagers children being taken advantage of in this way is not just simply down to the parents exploitation.

While I`m no way in hell support prostitution. But how would they survive if it stops? Thats the question continues the growing of prostitution. Evidently, these women weren`t forced to have sex with tourists. Now if they were sold as sex slave , that`s another story.

you`re a 500 LB asain fisherman with gout who lives in a low class slum, see how easy it is to do that. now that thats out of the way im glad to see everyone eats this up and take it as all true. You probably are exactly what you described me and toke to be but wish deeply that you weren`t. The problem is you can be from anywhere and have an understanding about anything (i wouldn`t expect stupid people to know that though)
im glad you think prostituting children is the first step they should take in their lives to make money, clearly the thought process of a genius. It`s a sad story, but it speaks more to the problem with Kenya than it does the sex tourists exploiting children. These kids went to the beach _by themselves_ to sell their bodies. No one forced them. They have no one to blame but themselves, their parents, and their country for not teaching them how to behave and how to survive.

I don`t condone exploiting children, but if you go to the beach and offer yourself to every man there, what do you think will happen?

On a side note, I was kinda surprised at how fat a lot of the girls were that were supposedly `starving.`

lol actually i do understand that and what makes me wonder where that one chicks 1500 pounds went....and btw 20 pounds is more like 30-40 american dollars.

Oh and you blame the tourists? I do to, but I blame the parents more for advertising their children and not teaching them right or wrong...Remember in the story how she said she was SO HUNGY she ended up selling her body? Well her parents didn`t look a goddamn bit hungry did they? Bet they still don`t with her 3000 american dollars(more than most prostitutes in the states make)....and i bet she is still getting "raped" cuz it`s actually prostitution since none of the children where actually being kidnapped and thrown on the road they went to private hotels to have sex with rich guys in exchange for money on their own will b/c the parents won`t let them home or will starve them. I`m sorry but this story is assbackwards just like most of you people.

You didn`t take in consideration all the factors. Yes, as you imply, those kids prostitute themselves by choice. They chose that life over labor, getting an education, etc. Now take out of the equation labor, getting an education, etc. What you have to realize is that those choices are not available to them or they are taught that they are not available for them (which amounts to the same thing really).

People like you and I have been offered and have been taught many ways to make a living and it`s only natural to think that any other person can do what we can do because nobody`s really born all-knowing. So what happens when the trend of more than a third of your child population is child prostitution? How would your mind work in that scenario? We hear about a child prostituting himself/herself and are shocked beyond belief. They hear about a child prostituting himself/herself and their reaction is as bland as "meh".

Poor kids don`t know any better because there`s no one to teach them better.
