Is not that a majority? Where is the democractic process?

Can someone please give me a link or a place to verify his numbers. I`ve been bombarded with right wing media so I`m skeptical about his claims.

If what hes says is true. Than Obama should ram rod that legislation WITH a public option through.

His numbers are wrong, the numbers are smaller. However, there were some answers in the study that really made me scratch my head.

For instance, most Americans (65%) think "that the problems in the country`s health care system will eventually affect most Americans if they are not addressed"...

YET

52% felt more secure with the current health care system than with the proposed reforms.

Sounds like most Americans are pretty comfortable with the idea that we`re damned if we do, damned if we don`t.

Fun. Really looking forward to seeing where this country goes in a few years. It`s like an annual shitfest, except it`s all year `round!

His numbers are not wrong. Why do you use, as a source of reference to substantiate your statement, a poll that was not used by nor referenced anywhere in the video?(http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/09/02/rel12d.pdf) This poll, while you may consider it more accurate(although I would inquire as to your reasons for that belief), is not the topic of discussion in the video. Fair enough if you don`t agree with NYTCBS Poll and choose instead to beleive the CNN Opinion Poll but you give no reason why one is better than the other leaving me slightly confused about your point.

The opinions expressed in the video are accurate with regard to the poll the host states is the basis of those opinions. That poll is the New York Times/CBS poll he references at the beginning of the video(Http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2009/09/25/us/politics/25pollgrx.ht
ml). The question he speaks of in the poll is as such:

Would you favor or oppose the government offering everyone a government-administered health care insurance plan like Medicare that would compete with private health insurance plans?

Favor /No Opinion /Oppose
65%/ 9% / 26%

Anyway you slice it, and from almost every poll i`ve read, the support for the public option is always significantly higher than that of the opposition. Significant enough that one could conclude the right direction for change was obvious and clear considering past legislation passed based on "public support" with a much smaller difference of opinion. And yet it not does progress that way.

Yes, but, 94.7% of all statistical data can be construed to indicate support for ANY particular viewpoint.

56.1% of the time.

Instead of writing ALL of that, you could have merely wrote this:

"Actually, Red, he was citing: "http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/09/02/rel12d.pdf"

In no way, shape, or form did I mention that I disagree with the sentiments in the video. Why don`t you go back and actually READ my comment before presuming what I meant.

As it would turn out, I made a mistake! Instead of making sure I went back and picked up the exact poll, CNN stuck in my mind. Therefore, I put that in my search perimeters.

EVEN with that in mind, the CNN poll shows that the majority are in favor anyways. So, with that in mind, all you`ve managed to accomplish is piss off an ally in the cause.

However, you`re apparently new here, so I guess I can`t blame you for not being familiar with my stance on the issue.

Cheers.

I can only respond to what you have posted and accept those posts to be an accurate representation of what you believe. I`m not going to start presuming you meant something different than what you state.

Because of this, your post confused me and I stated as much. The second sentence of the first paragraph of my post clearly asks you why you used the CNN poll. The rest is speculation on a reasonable motive for why you might have used it instead. Then I presume what you wrote was accurate and proceed to point out the reason I think you were wrong.

The final paragraph was not directed at you, perhaps I was unclear on that. It was my general opinion on the issue directed at no one in particular. Further, I never got the impression, or expressed in any way that I did get the impression, that you disagreed. I only expressed that perhaps you didn`t agree with the CBS poll, not the point itself.

Whether or not anything I say pisses you off is not a concern of mine, especially if you completely miss the point I was making(even if I am at fault for that). Yet I wonder why you did become so angry? It seems a simple matter of confusion. And yes, I am new but even if I was familiar with your opinions, I never thought you disagreed with the point of the video, just the poll used. So knowing you wouldn`t really have made it any clearer what you meant.

And actually, Red, I think you meant,

"Actually, Red, he was citing: "http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2009/09/25/us/politics/25pollgrx.html"

Cheers to you as well Sir.

From those poll numbers we can deduce that people are scared of Obama rather than healthcare reform.

Glenn Beck is doing a bang up job....

Fuck...

it`s been well documented for decades that the public supports not just a public option but true universal coverage. As Chomsky points out, it`s only become viable recently because the manufacturing industry is backing a reform effort since it simply cannot afford the costs that a private insurance industry elicit now. Sadly, both political parties are in the pocket of business (capitalism at work for you), so heaven forbid we go outright for the systems that are proven to work far better than the shitty system we get from the private sector.

The fact is that the Senate is having trouble finding support for the public option, not the House and not the population at large. If you want it done, let your senator know that he should stop worrying about contributions because s/he is losing legitimate votes now.

The constitution never actually says that america should be a `democracy` and the politicians know that.
It doesn`t matter WHO is president, because they all say they will make things better and no matter who gets elected nothing dramatically changes.

Destroying a flawed system to implace a worse one. We are becoming increasingly more like socialist China.

im tired of hearing "65% of Americans thought blah blah" or "50% of voters or republicans blah blah" myself and everyone i know has NEVER voted on any polls that say things like "65% of americans" (although we would if given the opportunity) therefore they obviously don`t poll EVERYONE, most of the time these polls are total bullshit because the people are voted are ghostsststs, or Frank Luntz :)
