Then 2 more thoughts... what a waste of a `59 Bel Air, and that driver`s a goner... I loved the comparison at the end.

Wish they could do that with one of those damned "Smart" cars.

the bel air was 50 years old. i`l like to see the results if the vehicle was brand new.

theres got to be metal fatigue in there somewhere not to mention micro fractures, broken welds and rust.

Vuarra: aah.... seems like yet another hater of the Smart car who has never driven one. Honestly the most fun car you could ever drive.... and in case you hadn`t seen it, the IIHS HAS done thier non-standard offset test between some mid-sized Mercedes and a Smart ForTwo... and it held up better than that Bel Air did. People may say "OMG, anyone driving the smart is dead"... but what people fail to realise is that if you were in even say a 40mph head on crash with another car, the chances of EITHER PERSON surviving would be slim... not because of damage to the car, but internal damage to one`s organs. the human body isn`t built to withstand extremely rapid/instant deceleration.

Seriously wish people would learn about the Smart before feeling like they have a bigger dick just because they drive a Cadillac Escalade back and forth to work. Nobody is expecting the Smart to replace EVERY vehicle.... but there isn`t really much use in this world for a huge ass SUV. Trucks, yes... because they can haul large things. Semi`s, yes... because they are the only reasonable way to deliver cargo to warehouses and such.... things that a truck would take forever with. SUV`s............ i can`t think of any use for them.

And before some idiot says shit about how... i dunno... i`ve never driven an SUV or something like that, and i don`t know what i`m talking about with them not being useful for fuck all... i went from a `99 Dodge Durango to a `09 Smart ForTwo. Do i regret it? Well... the majority of the driving i do is to work and back.... so HELL NO i don`t miss getting sub-20 MPG highway. Go out and test drive a Smart car before you think they`re pieces of shit.

In short... single people driving a Smart are driving SENSIBLE! single people driving large trucks and SUV`s.... enjoy wasting fuel to haul their ass around.

Thanks, Dragon... thanks for assuming you know so much about me... I drive a Suzuki Verona Wagon (actually, a Chevy Optra). And my first car was a Chevy Sprint. I don`t like the LOOKS of the car... but I do like the fuel savings.

How does conducting a crash between metal which has be driven around on for 50 years probably doing thousands of miles every year to a brand spanking new off the line car seem fair at all? Are you telling me in 50 years time my car is going to be JUST as safe as how it is now? I see the point in this and yes we have came a long way in regards to safety but seriously materials degrade and to think comparing something that is brand new to something that is 50 years old is a accurate test is just ridiculous.
