very conveniently forgotten that spending depends on what happened *before* the guy got in office. americans made tons of money from ww2, and so it shows in the *post* ww2 budget. likewise with how bush killed the economy, obama has to spend billions to fix it. remember all those bailouts? the need for them was created under bush!

there`s kind of a few flaws here. for example, he`s using inflation to adjust Bush`s numbers, but there`s no way to do that for Obama`s figures...speaking of which, such figures are just speculative at best. I am a bit concerned when Bush doubled our deficit, something Obama isn`t planning to do, yet this guy represent`s Obama`s progress as being many times Bush`s and at a more excessive speed. Hard numbers would do better than a rather liberally-interpreted map. I also didn`t like how he suddenly started mentioning who controlled Congress once the first debt-whore, Reagan, stepped up.

That said, Bush boosted spending while passing a trillion dollar tax cut and going to war. It seems both parties are big spenders at this point, but who`s spending the moeny more wisely? Obama is on the right track in that respect. But the best track isn`t to just outright cut spending, but to also *raise taxes* already. Why didn`t he mention how Reagan`s record explosion in debt is also at a time where he pushed through severe tax cutes relative to that under Truman, who `pulled a u-ie`?

If he wants Obama to start doing something about the deficit, he should start crying for a tax hike. Conservatives bitch and moan about passing a Healthcare bill that costs $800 billion so quickly, but Bush cut 1.1 trillion by June of his first year. If health care reform fails, it seems that Bush didn`t pass a taxcut so much as pissed away our hopes of a competent and efficient health care system.

This guy should let me house sit for 8 weeks.

We`ll measure my costs for running the house over the 8 week period, then at the end of my 8 weeks I`ll burn it down while we all pretend I`m not. (Assuming no insurance for the sake of argument) We can then measure his costs in the 4 weeks that follow his "moving back in" and see who is the bigger spender.

I have nothing against this comparison but I believe that is it incomplete. The underling assumption is that the economic conditions are exactly the same throughout which is not the case. First, let`s replace the car with a train that way we can get a better feel for the momentum involved. Let`s the economic conditions that are conducive to a surplus being represented by an uphill and those that are conducive to deficient a downhill.

If we place a train on a downhill slope, even without applying force we would expect the train to move forward and vice versa on a upward slope.

And of course there is an acceleration factor we have to take into account.

So if let say a train is on a very steep upward slope, it would be a pretty amazing feat if you can get it to go 64mph. And if you are in a free fall, it would a miracle if you can get it to stop or even to slow down.

So let`s suppose during the Bush era the train is on a slightly upward slope or even a flat slope. For those 8 years his average is 64mph, but what about his acceleration rate? Suppose for the last quarter mile he really steps on the gas, while heading towards a downward slope. Just as he pass the crest and is moving forward downhill, with his feet still on the gas he jumps out and let`s Obama climb in.

Obama is frantically trying to slow down but his is fighting gravity and momentum. He steps on the breaks and throws sand on the track.

The train finally comes to a stop and the first thing you ask is why it took you 2 miles to stop?

The economy and deficit is a very complicated issue and there are a lot of factors involved, but I think the author has showed his bias in the why he presented the issue....and this is assuming his data is correct.

I can go on and on and on. I`m not a big fan of Obama, politics is a dirty business and anybody claiming to be on a high horse is a hypocrite, however, if you are going to place blame, at least be fair about it.
