So 35% of NJ dwellers are idiots. The scary thing is, I would consider NJ, and most of the north-east coast to be in a `rational state of mind` (except for Detroit).

I can`t even imagine what sort of results you`d see from the rest of America. We`re literally dealing with many tens of millions of religious fanatics, conspiracy fruitcakes, racist biggots, incest hillbillies and worst of all Texans.

Frank Schaeffer is my hero ... I have an almost identical background, and a very similar life story. His book "Crazy for God" is excellent. Read it. His message is that most of what we see in the media (and in the current Republican party) is coming from all the fundamentalist whackjobs and their so-called leaders. Secondly, there are many decent people, who also happen to be Christians, but they "get it". They`re just much less vocal and public, and are distancing themselves from all of this baloney, and getting on with what it really means to be a Christian.

^ good on you misomi. I am a vocal atheist, but I respect Christians who can see through the real problems with religion-gone-wild. Whatever fairy tales get you through the day; you`ve got yours, I`ve got mine. As long as we don`t beat each other up in hatred and intolerance, it`s all good, and hopefully we all learn something worthwhile along the way.

It astounds me how easy a target the fundamentalists should be in this fever pitch political riot, but how few people are actually calling them out on their screaming bullshit. I almost agree with Schaeffer that they are the cause of most of the bullshit we are seeing these days, but there`s one catch: obscene money, the elephant in the room. Too bad the media are so tied into that game that they usually won`t dare follow real leads that point back to the true source.

The fact is that it`s 1% of the rich fucks who are really steering this train off the rails. The fundamentalists are just grease on the rails to help the train slide off. Their fanaticism, credulity, and their particularly bent superstitions, are all perfect stuff to deliberately agitate, and sabotage any reasonable discussion. Poke the "village idiot" until he screams so loud nobody can talk or hear. So they are the visible face of the dysfunction, but it`s a retard`s face, pushed cluelessly out in front with a gun in hand to start the fight. The real question is who`s pushing them. And that leads right back to that 1% of the rich fucks, with the money and profit motive to divide us and keep us falling.

And it`s a real shame, because even those fundamentalist retards are nice folk just trying to get out and do the right thing. They have been profoundly lied to (for profit), they are more victims than anything, but it`s still hard to befriend them in the face of such deceit and ignorance and the resulting social chaos.
