I`m really glad to start hearing the word "fact" instead of "theory". Scientists have to realize the rest of the world aren`t all a bunch of brainy wankers, and use clear, common words with the correct meaning.

Like "the FACT of evolution". They really dropped their pants on that one. 40% and they still waffle around trying to explain technical nuances.

And his next book:

Toys R Us: The Evidence Against Santa Clause

Don`t get me wrong, I`m anticipating this book and I think it is a fantastic idea. However, sometimes it just strikes me odd that a book like this NEEDS to be written.

The evidence for evolution is absolutely overwhelming. Even the Catholic Church recognizes evolution as a mechanism of God`s creation. The idea that so many don`t, or won`t, believe in evolution staggers my mind.

Evolution is a fact of fucking life people.

For someone not from the US, can someone give me their thoughts, would it be safe to say that the vast majority of that 40% of dumb asses would be living in the south?? I only ever hear bad things about those states..

^ Yeah I think the south has the larger portion of them. Just look at a map that shows the Republitards vs. Democraps in red vs. blue, and label the red part Dumbfuckistan. I guess the blue part could be called Suckeria.

Naw, it wouldn`t be safe to say that. Concerning overall stupidity, it comes from all walks of life. It`s here, where exploder lives, and where you live.

Stupid people are everywhere.

However, if you wanted to talk about disbelief in evolution, that`s a tough call. After all, Martin Luther King Jr. received a much more violent reception in Chicago than he did in Alabama.

History of the US is hard to cut up nice and neat parses, especially when it comes to the "North" and "South". This is particularly true considering the general development of this nation. To be honest, part of the reason we have our modern south is because of the mistreatment of ex-Confederate states during the Reconstruction Era.

So if you want to know why, in part, the South is like it is... blame the North.

I`m thinking around 10% will use his pronunciation of "evilution" as evidence that they shouldn`t listen to him.

^^ Do you have the courage to buy a bible? :P

Looks like I gotta get me a new book. For some reason release in Australia beat the U.K. by some weeks, so it`s actually been out here for quite a while and I didn`t realise.

^ Hey I have a bible, and I`m an atheist. Has anyone actually read that thing? Its terrible, especially the old testament, its hard to find anything resembling morals in that book.

I wonder if there are atheists that don`t think Evolution happened.

@exploder: Well technically evolution is still a theory, but you have to understand the definition of "theory" in an empirical scientific context.

"the term `theory` is reserved for ideas which meet baseline requirements about the kinds of empirical observations made, the methods of classification used, and the consistency of the theory in its application among members of the class to which it pertains."

Things like gravity, general relativity, thermodynamics, etc. are all still "theories," it`s just that they`ve gone through the rigorous testing to become practically fact (most of them are). So when you hear the "theory of evolution" it is indeed a correct title, but it has gone through so much testing and empirical evidence that it becomes fact; how it happens, however, is still conjecture. Not knowing what the word theory actually means in the context of evolution can hinder your understanding of it; hence why all the "intelligent design" bible thumpers think that calling it a `theory` is the same as `guess.`

^ cha0tic, Yeah, I think I know that, you brainy wanker ;)

And my point is that the people who really need reaching, at least start off unable to grasp fine distinctions like the differences between hypotheses, theories, and facts. Some topics need to be communicated with more black and white words like FACT to stick in their ignorant or absolutism infected minds. If they accept enough knowledge, then they have the platform they need to wrap their minds around the nuances of science. Until then, wielding accurate terms like theory is poor competition against the absolute word of God almighty as written in The Book.

Fact has a much stronger base than theory even the theory has been proven. You can change a theory but you can`t change the fact. In this case there are hell a lot more proven fact on evolution than the bible.

I have always explained it like this:

Evolution is a fact.

The "theory of evolution" is the explanation at how evolution works.

These two simple sentences are really hard to mess up and/or understand.
