TEDTalks Wireless Electricity

Eric Giler wants to untangle our wired lives with cable-free electric power. Here, he covers what this sci-fi tech offers, and demos MIT's breakthrough version, WiTricity -- a near-to-market invention that may soon recharge your cell phone, car, pacemaker.

Awesome. Add some free energy to that and we`re all set.

How is this not at 5/5?

To make this not only commercially available, but also small enough and applicable to almost any electronically powered device is a huge leap.

This development will make so many tasks 100% more convenient.

Yes, this wireless energy is old. It can demonstrated in a physics classroom. However, I seriously don`t think this technology will ever become mainstream, especially with all the environmental awareness nowadays.

Wireless energy is the equivalent of catching water from a geyser. Energy is being sent in every direction and you are only getting a portion of it. Not efficient at all.

There was a post long ago about directed wireless energy. Much more efficient it seems, but not 100% of course.

Sorry to say, just stick with wires.

As a back story on Tesla, that machine was built backed by jp Morgan.

So Tesla says hey i got it working and it gives free energy from the magnetosphere to all people of the world.

JP Morgan says .. you fool how can i charge something if it`s free . He then cuts funding and Blacklist him from all projects so Tesla can`t get funding.

Now if you look on wiki, you will find that it claims it produced powerful radiation. Which isn`t true. But their is a downside ... if turned into a weapon it can pull energy from the magnetosphere, and fry any nation. SO you can kinda see the dangerous implications for this technology

This has powerful implication.

It didn`t help that Tesla claimed he could rip apart the world with electromagnetism. Which he is technically right. You can easily, because of how strong the force is compared to other known forces.

^^^ but anyways this is just some food for though. At least they referenced Tesla rather then; hey I made this technology.

Nokia has a cell phone that uses current ambient waves to charge its batteries.

That`s ahead of this.

Current technology is also 100 years old. Modern Marvels did this story...Tesla and Edison were in competition for how the world would transmit power. Edison won.

The other difference is that Tesla`s power is DC. Ain`t necessarily anything wrong with that, except we`ve got 100 years of infrastructure based on AC electricity.

Ironically, the third world could really benefit from this since they don`t have an existing grid like we do.

^You`re wrong. Edison used DC, Tesla used AC. Edison made the point that AC current was far more dangerous than DC in a bid to dissuade its use.

AC is better for the electrical grid.

yay!!

this guy just invented radio. Oh....wait...that`s already been done. Ok well he invented the transformer....oh wait, that`s been done.

I was designing a similar system for a medical device 10 years ago....and we were laughing about how we were trying to invent 1920`s technology...

This exact technology has been around for years. Big deal.
