Fuck this chart for destroying my vision of surviving an apocalypse and getting to drive all the exotic cars until the fuel runs out.

So let`s just make more, until we are just under the line?

As if we really need them?

I think that once a certain critical percentage of area has been glassed, civilisation would collapse. But we would return, re-build, and it would probly be as shitty as ever. Only with more mutants.

You should add another chart that shows the spread of fallout across the world ... probably about 5% of what we have would be enough

^i was thinking same thing and if they detonated into the atmosphere you`d get a much larger radius of fallout than at sea level. Also taken from mythbusters....sometimes adding 2 times the amount of explosives doesn`t always give you 2x the power....it can be a lot more.

But seriously we can discount Australia, can`t we? No civilisation there.

No fair! I`ve got this great vision of being the vault dweller from Fallout.

I`ve gotta put that game down for a bit..

Curious to know where he got the numbers from seeing that Israel has never acknowledged they have any...

Not to doubt you, but I`m pretty sure even a medium sized nuke would pretty much ruin everything in more than a 15 km area

^ Tokentiki, put simply, no. Watch fuckin Mythbusters or whatever again.

Fallout comes from dust particles thrown *into* the atmosphere from a *ground* burst. Air burst gives a huge EMP hit but is, comparatively `clean`.

a nuke that`s 200x stronger going off near ANY populated area would most likely result in a retaliation strike or multiple strikes and the complete collapse of modern infrastructure, communication, education, health care, and most other basic human needs.

As a follow up to my previous comment, the largest bomb ever detonated (the Tsar bomb) which was 50 MT. Everything with in 13km was completely destroyed (as per the poster). However, it was designed as a 100 MT bomb (it was scaled back for the test), which would destroy everything within 195 km. And this was in 1961. It is very unlikely that almost 50 years later, a stronger bomb has not yet been developed.

If you consider the Fallout, which will poison our water supply and food supply and the Nuclear winter caused by dust in the atmosphere, app. 10% of the Nukes currently existing on the Planet will be enough to make it inhabitable for us. The chart would be correct if one would like to figure out what it takes to cover earths surfice in glass.
