Dr. Martin Luther King firmly believed in God.

Have fun mocking God and feeling superior to other human beings who are far more of an asset (even after death) to the earth and humanity than you will ever be.

I guess someone has to go to Hell. Enjoy.

^ Before you get flamed to death, I will try to give you some constructive advice.

I used to be where you are.

It`s hard to even imagine alternative explanations to cosmic/theological questions when you have essentially been brainwashed your entire life to only believe certain ideas and people, even when they have no rational explanation or evidence.

I urge you to explore the other side of the great debate, with an open mind if you can. This is very difficult, since people like you and I were raised to believe that everything anti-religion is evil and corrupt.

But if you listen with an open mind and an open heart, you may be surprised with what you find.

Even if it doesn`t cause you to question what you have always been taught, you will have still gained much from your experience. You will have developed tools to critically analyze your religion and those who oppose it, and will likely have become stronger in your faith and zeal.

I know that this is the internet, and you probably won`t take me seriously, but you should really consider it.

It will change your life for the better, regardless of its outcome.

^^ The reason people making video like this is because the creationist distore even the most basic facts to suit their needs, like dynasaurs 4000 years ago? All the evidents there are to support evolutions are too much for some. Those people who in the field of science (and some who doesn`t) has to put these fact straight.

All these internet mocking and debunking of creationist is in response to the lies some of the creationist told. in short, people won`t mock your religion if you keep you religion as personal believe and not push it on someone`s face.

the video is clever but i guess what really bothers me is how blind it is....its made by some one who has not really studied intelligent design...now i`m a creationist but i don`t really go for the young earth theory, but i am also skeptic about the fossil record, there are just too many errors and factors of error that come with isotope dating and the such and no more of a way to back up the answers imperially than with using theology....

...something else that really stood out in the vid was around 4:15 it mentions a contradiction in Genesis about the creation of man and women, this is spin....the first few chapters of Genesis (on the first day God made.....and it was good....etc...) is poetry, this part of book was the oral poetic tradition in Hebrew, a few chapters later the book does not go back on itself but recaps and summarizes the poetic introduction

people just really need to stop bashing Christians cause its sheik...or making passive aggressive jokes at their expense

^ interpretation of scripture is religion`s greatest tool to supress mankids intellectual potency.

I do not know if there is a god or any omnipotent conscious being. I will probably never know.

What i am aware of is mankinds earliest attempt to interpret the `unexplainable` sensations and incidents (not to mention the existence of the universe) as "a highest being did it". Hence religion.

ANY suggestion which can offer a different explanation to why the universe is and what we are is instinctively ignored, and in many cases aggresively attacked, by people who were taught (throughout their entire youth) that manmade scripture is the ultimate truth.

The reason why the amount of people following religious institutions declines is not because more and more people turn their back against god. There are just more and more people who can question these institutions without being destroyed by the religious world around them. It`s a positive process.

I know what you`re thinking. This guy is an atheist because he interprets the world the `other` way. Well i`m not an atheist because of this. Alot of evidence related to the age of the universe/earth and evolution etc. is based on e certain amount of interpretation of observed data. I know this and yes, i do have doubts about the accuracy of these matters when i read about them in the most up-to-date writings.

I`m an atheist because of my ability to use my mind. Small example: one of the commandments (the sixth?) sais "you shall not murder". Yet the bible is full of examples of people murdering other people because their god told them to.
Even just now we had the crusades and inquisition (our dreaded DARK ages) when the church had the greater authority.

So you see, i cannot be religious in any way. I am being close minded right now but that`s just because my conscience does not allow me to mindlessly follow such a satanic book/institution/god.

^^ and a dream it will remain, its never going to happen.
worship isnt monopolized by popular religion,
we worship money, power, self....... i could go on..
nationalism is as bad as any organised religion.
a world without religion or some form of worship and control will never ever happen.

I am not religious, nor am I an athiest, I find moronic and fanatical christians equally as annoying as smug athiests

no matter what you choose to believe, the state of our planet, the steady decline of society, we dominate each other to our own injury, greed, violence......ect
the only thing that could conceivably put a stop to it is an omnipotent "godlike" being.
If one exists most of us are screwed, cause we chose not to believe, or we chose the wrong religion.
If one doesn`t exist we are screwed cause we are killing our planet and each other, on an escalating scale.

our future is bleak, no matter what side of the fence you sit.

I was (am) reading an Isaac Asimov short story and in it he mentions the Pax Romana which is a period of about 200 years when the romans controlled everything and there was peace. Everyone had their own religions in their various regions but that didn`t matter because they were all roman citizens. Once the religions started preaching intolerance of other religions (like Christians) is when things started going bad. "my religion is the only religion and you are going to follow it even if i have to kill you to save you!". Things like the crusades or what everyone`s favorite Austrian, Adolph did.

like someone said up there, religion isn`t going away. we`re going to have to get over ourselves and not worry about what other people believe. It doesn`t even matter. you go believe in your magic skydaddy, just keep it amongst yourselves. stop shoving it in everyone`s face. if i go to hell, that`s between me and your god. its none of your business. just like you wishing to imaginary friends is none of my business. as long as it doesn`t effect me or society

the world would be so much nicer if people just minded their own fucking business

^If that`s so true, then why do you associate those with religious beliefs with terms such as "magic skydaddy" and "imaginary friends?"

Sorry, I just can`t help but notice the inherent self-contradiction of someone who says "the world would be nicer if people just minded their own business" while insulting others whose beliefs differ from their own.

As for everyone else, I think Macro and thedude have what seem to be some of the most level-headed arguments I`ve yet encountered on this subject.

To thedude, as a Catholic I find it extremely important to examine the other theories for how/when/why we are here, and it`s for the exact reason you pointed out:

"Even if it doesn`t cause you to question what you have always been taught, you will have still gained much from your experience. You will have developed tools to critically analyze your religion and those who oppose it, and will likely have become stronger in your faith and zeal."

You have to be educated on every side of an issue if you are to truly understand what you believe. I think so many people get lost in this idea that, "Well I heard this first, so it must be true." That is nothing more than blind ignorance. To be honest, I think you may be surprised to find out just how open-minded many people of faith are, as well as how effective they can be at arguing a certain idea without even using religion to back up their claim.

To Macro, I agree that there is a gross abuse of faith when certain church leaders/members viciously attack those who make even the slightest attempt to not necessarily debunk religious explanations, but at least SUGGEST that maybe there`s more to what we have seen/learned. It`s these kind of ignorant people who (unfortunately) get all the attention, and whom most people use as ammunition against those of any faith.

What I have to disagree with you on, however, is your argument regarding certain events in the bible regarding "people murdering other people because their god told them to."

No insult intended, but I think this may be a rather ignorant argument. Not ignorant in the "too stupid to understand" sense, but more of a "not fully aware of circumstance/surrounding facts" sense. If you would like to cite a few examples for me, I will gladly respond with maybe some information that could help dissuade you from feeling the bible is a "satanic" book.

Now that I`ve written my obligatory 2 page long essay, I`ll end by just saying this:

If you are going to preach tolerance and open-acceptance of others, do so without insult, ignorance, or malignant intent, because then you have done nothing but negate the whole point of the message you intended to spread.

The oldest surviving culture on earth are the Australian Aboriginals at about 40,000 years. So their culture started about 38,000BC, and that is not taking into account the even older cultures that have died out.
