I voted this 0.5/5 because I find it a little weird to assume someone who needs to build a snowcave would have a saw and require a snowcave so large. You can build one much smaller and quicker, even more effective with your bare hands in 1/10 the time. Not to mention how hard 2 people worked on this one. Just listen to them panting.

Yeah it`s a cool cave, but the point is very muddled.

::edit:: I think you`re missing my point. Snow caves are supposed to be emergency shelter. Who has a wood saw in an emergency? IF you`ve got a wood saw you`ve most likely got a tent.

^ and when your fingers fall off from frostbite you can`t even have a wank as you freeze solid in your snow-hole.

First of all, they were simply saying how having a saw can save you a lot of time and second of all:

Saw - less than half a lb.
Tent - 10 to 20 lbs.

You don`t carry an emergency hospital bed in your First Aid kit now do you?

I always carry a saw with me when I go skiing off-piste. It`s just common sense really. Mind you I can never find a mains outlet to plug it in to though.

You can get very lightweight and compact snow saws which can also do the job.

S3r4ph, you are right in saying basic snow caves are used as emergency bivvys but one like this can be used as a more permanent shelter and staging point on multiday climbs. This is not uncommon in mountaineering when several camps are needed.
