Goddamnit, what is this guy talking about? Women have always been exploited in video games the same as in any other entertainment industry: movies, music, comic books, porn, etc. Women also never expressed a need to play video games, so one might think that the problem is NOT with the male-biased industry. Why doesn`t the make-up industry try to have a large male target market? Why aren`t there any soap-operas for males who didn`t get their balls cut off? Why do males think teleshopping is retarded?
Simple: different sexes, different needs. This video just talks about nothing, it just explains things that are so painfully obvious it`s not even funny. Next he`ll probably make a video explaining why eating a lot makes you fat, or why you shouldn`t stare at the sun, or better yet why you shouldn`t insult a person with a gun.

I am a woman and I am a gamer. The above comments don`t surprise me as I find a lot of sexist and ignorant commentary in regard to women on this site. I am responding because sometimes the message gets through to one or two guys who are intelligent enough to learn a new way.

I think the most important thing said in the video is that we have to stop thinking about this through the veil of gender bias. His points about the sexual exploitation of women in the graphics is valid and does make women feel alienated, that those games "just aren`t for us".

I am currently playing left4dead (and looking forward to L4D2)where not only is there a female character but a fully clothed, non-buxom one. I like that. I need more of it. Yeah to more women working in the gaming industry so more balanced games will be made.

^Vizreel- the make-up analogy is just stupid and again sexist. I mean think for a second about why women where make-up. On top of that various forms of make-up have been marketed to men for years; and more men would use it if their buddies didn`t call them "gay".

Most girls don`t play games about shooting and explosions and half naked women for the same reason most guys don`t do all the stupid shit that girls love to do. Different sexes, different tastes. This video is pointless.

As for claiming that casual games are going to bring women into more "hardcore" gaming, I don`t believe that for a second. Casual games will lead women to other casual games maybe, but bejeweled isn`t going to have the girls clamoring for the next Gears of War.

More women creating games is pretty-much the only way to bring about games that are catered to both genders. Until then, its obviously a male dominated market, and sex sells (in every market, not just games). So either accept it for what it is, or do something about it. As in, go get a game design job.

Sex sells, yes, but it`s not the be-all and end-all. Look at... well, *all* of Valve`s products. Good games don`t need sexuality to sell and shit games will be shit regardless. The video was correct and concise. It doesn`t matter if it was obvious, it was a discussion of an issue and it brought it to your attention.

Sex does have it`s part in games and in some rare cases is done well enough to lend something more to the game than just something to ogle while you play. Over-sexing is a problem but not just for women - a lot of male characters are ridiculously built now. Look at Chris from RE5, his arms are TREE TRUNKS.

As someone that grew up with girls to play street fighter, mortal Kombat, all the mario games, world of warcraft, and warhammer online, with I`m sad as well at some of the comments these other guys make on this site.

I`m not someone thats into the rhythm games, but tons of my guy and girl friends are, I hate turn based games other friends love them. Gamers have different tastes, like different platforms and even just the device imputs (which is slowly going away thanks to PS3 having some mouse and keyboard support).

Comics went through this years ago also the exact same story, I`ve been there, now I know more girls interested in comics then guys.

The first 7 minutes of this video were valid, but the final point he makes that marketing gaming as `sexy` or with sexy girls drives them away is total bullshit.

Does marketing with sexy girls drive women away from buying cars, make-up, body lotion, shower soap, hair products, clothes, or cell phones?? No, and all of these things use sexy women in their ads.

His argument that a `sexy gamer` sends women away is crap. If a chick sees a `sexy gamer` ad, she will want to BE the sexy gamer. Same way make-up, hair styles, cell phones, all that shit works.

Marketing people are good at what they do, so for this feminist dude to get up there behind his cartoon podium and they are are doing it wrong is dumb. Why would the game companies hire marketing firms that alienate new customers??
