^ Nor did I. Most folks generically refer to the animals as "sting rays" despite the fact that many "ray" species do not have barbs on their tails.

The way they were handling that one, it`s quite obvious it was a stingless variety.

EckJerome: Well.... it could be why they call the giant stingray a Whipray..... using it`s tail as more of a whip than a barb-lunging apparatus. Then again.... i also don`t remember the barbs being permanently attached to the tail and growing until they eventually sting a predatory animal. Judging by the way the one guy was quite intently holding it`s tail, i`m assuming there could have been a small barb somewhere.
