The world is full of power-tripping assholes. But considering the number of videos we see of poice abusing their power, there`s gotta be something more to this. Does the system encourage such behaviour? Do they get a cut out of every ticket they write? Is it shit training?

I really find it hard to believe that its just a bunch of cunts acting like cunts. There`s got to be some motivation to act so blindly.

She said he needed a wheelchair and then he got out and smacked the cop, he could of had warrants or something and pulled in like he was hurt to get away. Well that is another view and since we don`t have rest of info who knows. I would go with that cop was being a dick if i had to guess though.

Did you guys watch this video? It was pretty clear that the husband who needed a wheel chair could walk just fine considering he had enough energy to get out of the car and hit the cop.

If it was so much of an emergency that the lady couldn`t pull over why didn`t she just call a fucking ambulance? Or dial 911 when the cop was trying to pull her over and explain the situation? She needed to use her head, and her husband needed to actually be hurt.

While I understand police abuse their power pretty often, this definitely wasn`t one of those cases.

"Following about two-and-a-half hours of deliberation Thursday, the eight-woman, four-man jury found Reggie Bernard Burks Sr., 47 not guilty on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony and guilty on a charge of resisting and obstructing police, a two year felony. The second verdict was the less-serious of two options the jury had for the resisting and obstructing charge."

I wouldn`t have expected him to get off free but it`s good penalty will be light considering the cop deserved a smack with the cane.

Aren`t police supposed to be working to ensure public safety? How is the public safety promoted by forcing someone who needs medical care to wait while a minor traffic violation is taken care of?

What I don`t like about police, even the good ones, is that their emphasis always seems to be on "upholding the law" instead of _ensuring public safety_. I wish police departments would emphasize to their officers that ensuring public safety is the goal here, and enforcing the law is just their primary tool to achieve it... but not the ONLY one that they should always use. The police work for us - it`s unfortunate that so many law-abiding people in this country dislike or are afraid of them. This should NOT be the case in a free society.
