I hate how the media devalues everything Ron Paul says, simply on the basis that he`s said it before - "We always know where he stands..." Yeah, he repeats himself but that doesn`t make him any less correct.

Complete Bullshit.

And knowing where a politician stands is a bad thing? I agree with the black man and am going to assume that wasn`t in a negative context.

Ron Paul, as common sense as he seems, has one major issue looming over him that has plagued society since we first began to settle: Poverty.

And he is just wrong to say people cannot be taxed further. Our taxes are very low relative to most other modern western nations who have a higher quality of life.

People want "socialized" medicine. They want their roads, they want their schools, they want their government to fucking burp them, they just don`t want to pay for it. It`s time to suck it up and start putting money where our mouths are.

I like the fact that even though he is a republican, he doesn`t make it out to be a democrats vs. republican war.

One of the more sane republicans. Why didn`t he run for pres?

um...pretty sure that the comment by the black dude was not meant to be a negative statement. All he said was, "we always knows where he stands, when he wraps up an interview." I took it as more of a compliment, praising Ron Paul`s succinctness and clarity with which he proposes his arguments. I think we sometimes get just a little bit carried away with the whole "everyone in the media hates Ron Paul" thing.

I am not trying to be combative but I cannot let your comments pass without input.

We (the U.S.) don`t know poverty (yet). We have been close in the past, and may know it soon due to this ridiculous spending spree but we are amateurs compared to other countries.

I have lived in different parts of the world (not bragging... it was my job) and I have seen, heard and smelled real poverty. Those in "poverty" here live unbelievably well compared to most of the poverty stricken I have seen elsewhere. They have access to more benefits and programs than anywhere else I have seen. They can go into any hospital and get treatment for their ailments on the taxpayer`s dime. They can get free food from charities, food stamps or soup kitchens. They can even spend most nights with a roof over their heads if they play by the rules. It may come with no frills but the programs are out there. My mother has spent her entire adult life as a social worker showing them how. I never saw that in the countries I have been to.

I just read an article in the New York times that disputes your idea that Europeans have a higher standard of living than we do. It was dated from 2005 but even then the article said that Europeans had fear of the near future because they believed that it was just going to get worse... and it obviously has. Back then their rate of unemployment had been for years what it is for us now (8% and higher in Europe). What do you think it is now? Back then we rated higher than all European countries with the exception of Norway and Luxemburg. Europeans get the crap taxed out of them and still they live at a lower standard.

If socialized medicine is so great why do 70% of the people in France that can afford to do so, dip into their own earnings to pay for health insurance outside of the socialized programs they are forced to pay into? Why does it take 6 months to get an appointment to get a mole checked, and then another 6 months for it to get diagnosed as malignant, and then another 7 months to get the damned thing cut out (a story I was reading a few months ago in a paper about the pros/cons of socialized medicine). How can that be possible? I`ll tell you how.

Imagine the DMV running all of the hospitals and it`s administration. Guaranteed paycheck with no worries about customer complaints or efficiency. Now imagine every single hypochondriac you have ever met trying to squeeze themselves into the waiting room of your local hospital (...cause ya know it`s free and stuff...) the day after you find said mole... Sounds great!

Europe... All that tax money gets them nothing more than bureaucracy and headaches.

i am a Ron Paul skeptic

due to:

his disbelief in evolution, which opens the door to irrational belief systems.

Attending/supporting the tax day tea parties - Dr. Paul spoke at the Clear Lake Tea Party in his home district on April 15th 2009.

his stance on small government & ending governmental programs, E.g. Department of Agriculture and Food.

& his recent comments on swine flu, which showed a complete lapse of critical judgement on the potential serious implications of the problem at hand.

Scotcf is making his case based on the absolute most rare and negative cases you`ll find from universal health care systems. You wanna talk about the shit that goes down in the US and their healthcare system. You`re argument sounds good but its super duper biased. I`ve lived in Britain, Canada, and the U.S. and I`ve researched the whole thing. Universal health care works best for the majority by far. Of course there will always be a few weird unusual cases of bad shit. But seriously look at the shitty things that go down in the US before you pick out one frikin` story you heard to base your whole opinion off.

Scottcf:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_unemployment_

rate

All of the central European countries (France, Germany, UK, switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Scandinavian countries) have lower unemployment rates than America. Some countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria even have half. Spain is the only exception, and Portugal with 0.1%, besides the shit that used to be USSR, and isn`t really Europe if you ask me. With a few of those countries added to the European union lately, if you hold that as the definition of `Europe`, the total percentage of unemployment is still lower than in America.

Get yerr facts straight. Or actually, 2005 new york times should. But probably they went what is `geographically` Europe. Which would include a part of Turkey (which borders with Iraq)... which is... kind of not-Europe...

Also, in the central European countries, despite higher taxes, the standard of living is at last matched with the USA, but probably higher. We simply have less homeless people, far less people jailed, quite a bit better (cheaper) healthcare, better infrastructure, better public education which is cheaper, ect. At the `price` of a bit more taxes. I would say that it`s a great purchase for our tax money.

Unless if I had a salary of more than 1 million dollars, I would rather live in (central) Europe. :)

edit: That isn`t to say America is poor. Compaired to Africa, India, Russia (oh yeah, part of Russia is geographically Europe, did they include that in the times article or something?), ect. I mean, if you are born in either Europe or the USA, you are already in the top 10% or less of places of the entire world where you could best be born. Being a poor kid in India is a completely different pile of shit aside this `europe vs usa` stuff :)
