Wow! I find it ironic how the comments he makes are close to beeing as idiotic as what he comments on.

Not to say that commenting on this topic is stupid, I mean he comments on a misconception or misuse of the word "socialism" by right wing propagandists and succeeds to come out sounding not quite knowledgable about it himself.

This is EXACTLY the reason why I never understood why the word "socialism" is used as a means to denounce certain policies in American politics.
There are tons of highly civilized countries, namely in Europe, that make use of even more socialist ideas than medicare and social security, and they`re doing fine.
This is also the reason why I don`t understand the left and right wing argument. At least in Germany, and I used to be sure it accounted as a general meaning, left wing means socialist and right wing means nationalist, or fascist, if you will.

Here in Canada I`m proud to say we`ve experienced both the good AND the bad of "DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM" so were neither afraid of nor abundantly pro socialism.

We had this crazy Oil drilling program where we effectively gave companies 100s of millions of dollars to drill holes in the middle of nowhere. It didn`t matter if you thought oil was there or not. You drill we pay, you profit.

There is such a thing as too much government but if you make the debate so retardedly polarized, then those opposed to social programs miss the potential benefits and those opposed to the opposers don`t understand the potential pitfalls of badly thought out social policies, they just blindly say RIGHT WINGERS SUCK!

I think some of these commentators have to get a fucking dictionary.
Yes socialism is in some cases, a distribution of wealth,you know a financial sort of equality, so everyone can eat, get shelter, you know basic fundamental needs.
And Fascism? Not even the same sport.
Unless you mix the two? Communism! Hurray we`re learning!
Fascism is what America had for the past 8 years, where government was taking control of everything including peoples freedom, privacy,all those things you`re country was FOUNDED ON! and really gave nothing back to the citizens except maybe a few tax breaks( which benefited the rich waaaaay more).
Not saying Obamas any better,I really don`t trust him, seems just like another politian, but SOCIAL programs are generally for the benefit of the countries citizens not the governments themselves.
Ideally speaking of course.
I much prefer to pay higher taxes and know that if I get hurt I don`t have to worry about whether or not I`m insured or at the "right" hospital.
Socialism is a very naive theory unfortunately, one that doesn`t take into account human greed, blah blah blah.
It doesn`t matter most people are brainwashed into thinking socialism=communism. Oh well.
America could never become a truly socialist state, it simply couldn`t afford to provide for 350 million+ especially in this economy.
Communism is the downside to socialism, hijacked by men who desired power. As much as I loved visiting Cuba, wow I would never want to live there. Military everywhere, and much of the population living in poverty.

Anyone who watches MSNBC for their political news coverage should be dragged into their street and shot.

It is socialist when the government is setting wages for employees and spending massive amounts of our money. They are controlling who gets paid, on what things get paid, and when they get paid. They spend trillions of dollars, and people are getting really pissed off about this and changing their minds about obama and his administration, so I guess we`ll have to see how it all ends up..

Socialism and Communism, on the right platform, are much better ways of running a country that capitalism. The problem is that we don`t have the proper policies in place to make it work properly. People want everything for nothing, that is why the world is falling apart.
