^After hitting the squirrel he moved to his secondary sniping location just to be safe. He didn`t have time to line up the shot. At any time he could have been sniped by that deer :)

on further full screen inspection it does appear to be a rabbit, wasn`t looking that close, but now that I do, that rabbit takes 2min to work its way into the kill zone, talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What happened was his kid dropped his rifle which knocked the sighting out. Understandably, the kid tried to get away with it by not telling his dad. :)

He eventually got the deer when it came back 20 minutes later with a different rifle...

Hrmm...I guess descriptions are necessary :)
