Fallujah was every soldier’s urban combat hell, a city held by a mixture of al-Qaeda fighters, Sunni insurgents, local tribesmen and criminal gangs, armed to the teeth and determined to die in battle fighting the invading infidels.
The most intense battle the US military had fought since the Vietnam war, US troops and their poorly trained Iraqi army allies had to fight street by street.
