BBC Horizon - Nuclear Nightmares 2\2

On 26 April 1986, reactor number four at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant blew up. Forty-eight hours later the entire area was evacuated. Over the following months there were stories of mass graves and dire warnings of thousands of deaths from radiation exposure.

Yet in a BBC Horizon report screened on Thursday, a number of scientists argue that 20 years after the accident there is no credible scientific evidence that any of these predictions are coming true.

The anniversary of the world`s worst nuclear accident in April saw the publication of a number of reports that examined the potential death toll resulting from exposure to radiation from Chernobyl.

I am not scared of radiation even befor this since i have seen proof like this befor.

This is a great vid tho make`s me fairly sure that radiation is not worth the fear that most people have to it.

Doctor: Mayor West, I`m afraid you have Lymphoma.
Adam West: Oh...
Doctor: Probably from rolling around in that toxic waste.
Adam West: I see...
Doctor: What were you trying to prove!?
Adam West: I was trying to gain super powers...
Doctor: Well, that`s just silly!
Adam West: Silly? Yes. Idiotic...? Yes.

Australia is suffering from `radiophobia`. Australia has the largest Uranium reserve in the world AND is the second largest miner (Canada supplying 23% followed by Australia at 21% as of July 2008) and all of it is shipped to other countries that have signed agreements to not use the Uranium for weapon technology, basically meaning it is all for world beneficial use regarding to infrastructure and healthcare research.
The bad news for Australia? They keep none of it and are still burning fossil fuels for nearly all of their power requirements.

I think the Aussies went through the calculations and figured it would take around 15 years to pay off the construction of the nuclear reactors. If they were to start, prices would just shoot up immediately.

Maybe they`ll think about this issue more clearly in the years to come.
