Mughal City of Fatehpur Sikri

"Akbar the Great (1542-1605), widely considered the greatest of the Mughal emperors, was only 14 when he ascended the throne in Delhi, following the death of his father Humayun. He was descended from Turks, Mongols, and Iranians." This clip looks at his magnificent capital of Fatehpur Sikri. "The Mughal Empire was an Islamic imperial power of the Indian subcontinent which began in 1526, ruled most of the Indian Subcontinent by the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and ended in the mid-19th century."

wow, that was very cool how he would get together with other people of different religions to talk and discuss religion. You dont really see that today, and thats too bad, im pretty sure things would be a lot better if like the the leader of Iran would get together with like a bishop, and other people, would help ease the tension in the middle east. Leaders today are such douchebags.

There`s no doubt that these empires created prosperity and growth, both economically and intellectually. What I find most interesting though, is, despite all the progress that is made, there are remarkable similarities in cultural attitudes that don`t seem to have progressed.

Case in point, the "Islamification" of India reminds me of the current cultural "Islamification of Europe". Don`t want to sound like a xenophobe, but the pro-Islamic attitudes of that era are still very relevant to our relationships to Islamic countries and Muslims today. And it appears as though globalization hasn`t pushed for harmony, but has rather done the opposite; especially, in regards to the Middle East.

Just a thought.

Nope, he didnt fail. Infact, he left an empire double the size of what he inherited. I believe he ruled into his 60`s until he died. His wife was a Rajput princess, married for promoting peace with the rajputs. His son and grandson presided over the part of 16th and 17th century that is sometimes called the Golden Age of India, due to the wealth and refined culture that was developed then. Of course, that was also what dumbfounded and attracted the Portuguese to India when they landed on its western coast. The mughal empire declined slowly in the late 17th and 18th century due to internal warring, strife etc. The british finally finished it off after the 1857 revolt...learnt this all in my history class way back in 94.

By the way, a huge amount of Mughal culture still survives in NE india, and S India. Mughal cuisine, poetry, urdu, etc are a big part of these regions.
