Those of you freaking out about the "kitten as bait" video will cry yourself to sleep after watching this. After you watch this, I think you will get the point I was making in these animals being treated worse. "Meet Your Meat", narrated by Alec Baldwin, covers each stage of life of animals raised for food.

I agree with you partly, the way the animals in this video were treated is despicable and it should not happen same with how the kittens were treated in the fishing video. However you seem to be under the mistaken impression that this is how all animals bred for slaughter are treated and killed. it is not.

I have grown up around farms and farmers in fact most of my extended family are farmers and I have helped brand, vaccinate and even slaughter sheep and cattle and I have worked summers in a pig barn growing up. Never once were the animals treated in such a fashion had they been there would have been serious repercussions for whoever was responsible.

This video is to show the extreme abuse some animals undergo and I agree it is inhumane and should not happen but do not believe that this is standard. The video is made to illicit shock and disgust by showing the worst of the worst furthermore much of the video seems extremely old, legislation regarding the treatment of livestock has improved vastly. Do not fall into the trap thinking that the only positions that exist are anything done to an animal is justified or nothing is. Again let me state my still valid opinion, torturing, abusing or inflicting needless suffering on an animal is wrong humanely killing an animal for food is not. Much of this video falls into the first category. This is hardly a rebuttal of my statements in the prior thread it is more in support of them.

BTW I don`t remember kittens being in part of the main diet of fish, however pork, chickens and cows, have been on human`s for thousands of years.

Adria Hinkle and Andrew Cook are currently on trial, charged with "21 counts of animal cruelty, seven counts of littering, and three counts of obtaining property by false pretenses." Their defense attorneys claim that the only thing they did wrong was illegally dispose of the euthanized animals in a shopping center dumpster. Here are some of the details surrounding the case.

The dog carcasses always appeared late on Wednesday nights, wrapped in black trash bags and stuffed in the Dumpster behind the Piggly Wiggly supermarket.

Over a period of three weeks in the summer of 2005, police officers in the small town of Ahoskie, N.C., pulled the bodies of 80 animals from the trash bin. Some were puppies, some were full-grown. Most were mutts.

On the fourth week, officers set up a stakeout, and when a white van pulled up to the dumpster, they pounced.

If the van`s cargo—10 dead dogs and three dead cats in black bags—was to be expected, its occupants were not. The driver and the passenger were employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the vehicle was registered to the organization
Each Wednesday, the pair went to the Bertie County animal shelter to clean it and pick up animals that would supposedly be put up for adoption. In their van, they injected each of the animals with a lethal dose of sodium pentobarbitol (an anesthetic they weren`t licensed to administer) and then dumped them. Hinkle and Cook kept a detailed log of their killings, including breed, sex, age, and condition (like adorable, perfect, and pregnant). There are photos of some of the dead animals and a tackle box of drugs and syringes confiscated during the arrest here.

PETA continues to assert that there was no cruelty involved. The organization`s president, Ingrid Newkirk, says the employees deviated from PETA policy by dumping the animals rather than cremating them...and PETA`s Norfolk VA office has a crematorium. Documents that PETA sends annually to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Human Services show that it cremated over 14,400 animals there between 1998 and 2005, just over 80 percent of the animals it received. 17.1 percent were adopted and the remainder was transferred elsewhere.

2.This is big corp that do this kind of stuff to meet the demands for meat why they treat them like crap but there are place( SOME meat LABELS HAVE IT) that make sure the animals are treated good and are killed in a decent way

What I dont get about PETA is that there so worried about animals and protecting them but they dont give a rats ass when they spray raid on a whole colony of insects. That imaginary line that they put between living things is BS!

No wonder we have so many health problems ,eating poor quality meat means poor quality of health for us humans.
Treat the animals with basic care so they can develop naturally and we will all have healthier lives.
The chemicals that make them develop so fast there body`s can`t even handle get`s into the meat we eat and IT DOES AFFECT US !!!!

well... no one says you have to buy meat from an animal treated in such a manner. one can easily go to a local farm or butcher and buy meat from good, clean, healthy and well treated animals.

and the thing about dairy cows being hurt during milking.. bullshit.
there are automatic machines now that I know a lot of dairy farmers use where the cow goes in and wants to get milked because 1) the cow can get milked at any time rather than having to wait for the farmer to milk them and 2) its a positive experience for the cow since a water jet gently massages the cows tittie.
