A MAN operated an illegal dental surgery in the kitchen of his New York home and gave patients wine to help them cope with the pain.
Police arrested Carlos Flores after raiding his home at Peekskill, in northern New York.
Investigators say he had all the tools and treated patients in the kitchen of his home.
They said he had a chair next to a radiator and antiquated instruments caked in blood.
Police say there were two birds loose in the house, and on the kitchen table was a jug of wine Flores allegedly gave patients to help deal with the pain.
They said a man who went there for a toothache ended up in hospital after Flores broke the tooth while trying to pull it out.
Police seized a dentist's chair, drugs and bloodstained orthodontic equipment.
Flores, 68, claimed he was a licensed orthodontist in his native Ecuador.
