Koyaanisqatsi

Scene from the indepedent film Koyaanisqatsi with the awesome modern piece Pruit Igoe by Philip Glass. The whole film has no actors, but uses landscapes and cities to convey a powerful feeling of distopia and beauty.

This is one of my top 10 favourite best ever movies. Thanks for the clip.

This film is almost better than drugs. It is almost entirely time lapse or slow motion. There are only a couple of very short scenes in it that are actually in real time, and they are more surreal than the long and short time perspectives they are set against.

The film also kind of tells a cuationary tale, that all of our modern way of life might be like a rocket shot for the stars, blasting into the sky, but only to explode. The title is Hopi, and means "a way of life that calls for another way of living" or "life in chaos".

I think of this as the only real precurser to The Matrix. Had the same completely outside-the-box effect.

^Yeah, this film kicks ass. The sequel was cool, too, but this one dives deeper.

I love this Film. Its just so emotive, so sublime and insightful into western culture. I don`t use these terms flippantly because I really mean it.
I first saw this film in Perth, Australia in 1992 as a part of Arts festival called ARTRAGE. Philip Glass was performing LIVE to Koyaanisqatsi projected on a huge screen with The West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Incredibly it rained! For Australia in early summer thats quite unusual. Everyone thought it would be canceled but after a 2 hour, yes 2 HOUR DELAY Mr Glass prevailed and it was relocated to a near-by cinema....and it was utterly profound. The Performance, the music, the film; I will never forget it. That was 16 years ago and I`ve been a big Glass fan since:)

Watching a film like this isnt for everyone, its got to do with your own taste. I will say this though; impatiently waiting for some suprise or event will be in vain, this is more like experiencing a texture of emotion. So yes a ZZZZZzzzz fest, but why not find out what happens when you sleep...
