Space Images: Eta Carinae

Eta Carinae, a hypergiant luminous blue variable star in the Carina constellation and one of the most massive and most luminous stars yet discovered, and the bipolar Homunculus Nebula which surrounds it. The nebula was partly created in an eruption of Eta Carinae, whose light reached Earth in 1843. Eta Carinae itself appears as the white patch near the center of the image, where the 2 lobes of the Homunculus touch.

And scientists are not sure that Eta Carinae will not blow in our lifetime, wiping out all life as we know it.

You`re welcome for the happy thought.

Vuarra - I love the internet. It took me only thirty seconds to confirm my suspicion that you`re full of shit.

Worst case scenario, shit looks blue for a couple months, yeah, that`s totally gonna fuck our shit up.

Whats really a mindfuck is that this is not a true visual of the astronomical anomally.

It is a mixture of visual Photography.

X-ray Imaging.

And Radio wave imaging.

As with almost all Astronimical photography.

That is what would look like if you could see infra-red and ultra-violet, and maybe some radio-frequency stuff. At least, that is how NASA colours in most of those pictures.

Doesn`t really make it any less pretty or awesome (big star shit is always awesome). Just to bad you can`t Really see that kind of colourful stuff from a window of a space-ship.

edit: someone beat me to it. My bad.
