Synopsis: After a plane crash in the ocean, a group of military students reach an island. Ralph organizes the boys, assigning responsibilities for each one. When the rebel Jack Merridew neglects the fire camp and they lose the chance to be seen by a helicopter, the group split under the leadership of Jack. While Ralph rationalizes the procedures, Jack returns to the primitivism, using the fear for the unknown (in a metaphor to the religion) to control the other boys, and hunting and chasing pigs, stealing the possession of Ralph`s group and even killing people.

When I watched this when I was younger I wanted to kick that little blonde fuckers ass so bad.. Nothing has changed.

^ The 1963 film has naked-naked boys in it. I think I like the older version better (and not because of the naked-naked). There`s something about it that`s darker. Witchier. More harsh. The newer version is OK, but too Americanised (the part where one boy wistfully yearns to be back home watching `Alf` was funny, though).

The author of this book was asked why he had little boys instead of girls. He answered simply, "Girls would do things differently."

For the parody, watch Das Bus episode of the simpsons. Has a few of the elements of the book in about 30 mins ;p.

This was the first movie I ever saw that "disturbed" me as a kid. When I was 10 I felt bad for that poor kid Ralph when they took his glasses and then they fucking dropped a boulder on his face. And they skewered the shit out of that other kid.

lol they took piggy`s glasses and i think in the book ralph was the blond one...

this was about the only book i read in english (along with elephant man) and glad i did.

killing the only 2 kids that could save them, simon and piggy, def show exactly whats going on...kill the people cause they know what to do and how to help.

wow, this versions better than the version i watched when i had to read this in school. The version i saw was in sepia, and when they dropped that rock, the big kid fell into the ocean with it. Man, I wish i saw this version.

Question 4: Discuss the symbolism of the pigs head on a stick. Use quotes if necessary.
