It`s only sexist if you take his position at face value. If you listen to his explanation properly (and read the actual article) it isn`t at all offensive.

Love how he spells out how the whole point was to get sexier women trying harder to be funny for him. Brilliant.

What I cherish most dearly about Hitchens, is that he brings a strong sense of humor into high grade philosophy. And I can`t respect philosophy that doesn`t practice humour as a core value.

Nice upload! All of what he said makes sense, especially the point that women don`t "need" to make men laugh. (It`s a bit of a stretched point, though)

There a few women that can make me laugh pretty hard, but they are very very rare. If the standup starts her act with PMS, you know it`s going to be bad. :P

P.S. Sarah Silverman = Nice approach to stand-up, but sucks horribly at it, IMO.

That`s just because Hitchens is only a passable standup comedian himself. Not bad, but not great, or that point wouldn`t be so stretched.

ps. Sarah in The Aristocrats, best ever. I can`t decide whether it`s like he said that women aren`t good at it, or because the really good ones make us men want to fuck them (women with humor = automatic win), so then we get destracted from the pure comedy of it. A decent way to test this is to ask women what they think about women vs. men as comedians, but you would have to disguise the question in order to learn anything other than a well earned kick in the balls in response.

Personally I think the problem probably roots in early childhood. Most people tend to give girls much more attention than boys, simply because their so cute and pretty and all that. Boys then try to get the attention of others by acting out and learning that if you pull jokes and do funny stuff people tend to be nice and laugh with you. Like Hitchens says a lot of women comedians are dikes. Perhaps the rule of thumb is that if you`re not cute and cuddly as a kid you have to be funny to get attention. Dikes tend to be dikes even as kids.

Sure this isn`t something that effect the entire population, not all boys are comedians and not all girl get undeserved attention. But I think it`s widespread enought to effect people so that we simply get an uneven ration. It`s like if you get all boys to play chess as kids, but not all girls. You then get more good male players than you get good female players.

Well being smart gives you the right to be a douche because what you say is true thus you offend people for being too straight forward.

Hitchens has a very rare mind set, he`s extremely clever and has an original thought pattern and also he knows he`s right. It`s not arrogance, it`s just a consequence of perfect logical thinking. If you would`ve seen his debates on religion, you`d notice how he never even has the courtesy to consider the opponent`s argument even remotely truthful. But this is ok because he`s right.

He is completely right. I don`t get why people, and especially(understandably in this case mostly) women, think that people shouldn`t just be treated equally, but that they Are completely equal.

People should be treated equally by law, as it comes to voting, rights, that kind of stuff. Saying black people need less sunscreen, or saying that men have more tunnel-vision than women, isn`t discrimination at all. It is just stating a clear fact, that makes sense if you look at our evolution. This is not the same as making any judgments. Saying women aren`t as funny as men, besides being a CLEAR EMPIRICAL FACT, doesn`t mean they should change it, doesn`t mean it is their fault, doesn`t mean that they are stupid for it, ect.

But people put on their `omg sexist!` hat way to fast. Hitchens (probably) isn`t sexist. Certainly this article of his doesn`t make him one.
