Iraq Soldier Discusses His Kills

In the spring of 2007, a conference was held on the outskirts of Washington, DC. Entitled Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan, it hearkened back to the Winter Soldier testimonies held three decades ago during the Vietnam War. Of the testimonies we filmed, this one, by Iraq War vet Jon Michael Turner, was the most compelling and intense.

This is just sickening.

"If you get your first killing by stabbing.."???!!!!! What are they dealing with? sheep??

I really feel like puking.

I am glad for him for coming clean but as you can see regret and remorse does not erase what you did. He will just have to live with it.

Proves that you get what you pay for. How sad to have a nation of people who volunteer for service, who are so weak they willingly become obediant monsters. If they fought for true freedom and justice, they would not do these things.

If you won`t take the responsibility for yourself, then there will always be someone to buy your soul.

OWN THYSELF

While I feel for this guy, he really is guilty of first degree murder. He chose to pull that trigger, you didn`t, I didn`t. No matter who might also share that blame, he is still guilty.

This sheds light on the moral crisis in the USA. People are willing to kill, rape, pillage. It`s not vey civilized, and it`s very unkind.

I think it`s a perfect reflection of what happens when people rely on a morality based on obediance instead of true personal convictions of kindness and compassion. They are told to obey or they will be punished. They don`t learn to truly abhor what`s wrong, just not to do it if they might get caught. Take away the punishment, and they are willing to commit atrocities. This is what happens when a society goes too police heavy, too jail heavy, too martial. You get what you paid for.

You wouldn`t get Buhddist monks doing this. They would light themselves on fire first (and have). They fear no punishment, not even from god, which they don`t believe in. They believe in compassion, not punishment.

Please Americans, make the choice.

You have to remember what war does to people. I have friends who were in Iraq for 4 years and they said from the day they landed to the day they left there was never more than 24 hours with out gunfire. Think about the effect that has of you CNS.

I shot a 9mm hand gun for the first time last week and I was shaking a bit for the first clip because I had never shot a hand gun and I just didn`t know what to expect. I have fired a 12 gauge, .22, .306 & an SKS many many times - and the SKS is an assault rifle. But a 9mm hand gun made me nervous. My brain said LIVE AMMO, DONT SHOOT YOURSELF and pumped me full of adrenalin. I didn`t mean or want it to happen but it did.

My point being is no matter the mental or physical preparation you never know how you will react until you are actually in a situation that forces your body to test its limits.

^exploder I agree he had the choice to shoot or not to shoot, but to think this man did not experience the thoughts and feel the fear of being killed from the day he signed up, no matter if it was by choice, would have a physiological effect on anyone, weather their actions were just or not. At the time shooting the people he did seemed ok, then when he calmed down and cleared his head he realized what he had done and wished to rectify it.

I think it is difficult for anyone to pass judgment on this man who has not been a war and had to fight for their lives, it changes people.

This makes me ill, regardless to whether or not this is widespread or just an isolated account (I seriously doubt that this is the only occurrence of this nature). I`m not surprised by the fact that this testimony received no media coverage or by the fact that "stuff" like this goes on in Iraq and Afghanistan. I will lose sleep over this, but, what can we/I do about it...?

@lostperson what the fuck are you talking about "why don`t all of you people go out to IRAQ and do something about it"? Alright why don`t we just walk into a war zone in which soldiers have admittedly murdered innocent people because they were told to, and ask them kindly to stop. Do you see how retarded that kind of statement is? Saying "do something about it" is such a weak answer to any argument because most of the problems that we need to do something about are caused by groups that have access to a lot of force. The only way you can "do something about it" is raise awareness so your not one lonely person walking into a battalion of weak minded sheep.

Hey...it`s Mr. Rip Off the Medals in a Dramatic Fashion. This version`s a little shorter than the last one posted here. Automatic machine gunner? What? There`s a another kind?

This guy a nothing more than a coward, who never did the right thing, then only took responsibility when he sat down in front a microphone. He should be escorted from the room in close custody.

No one forces you to pull the trigger. You don`t like the job, get out. Can`t handle the work, get out. Have a problem with the war, get out.

You shot a mosque`s minaret because you were angry? Shake you head, see what falls out, then get out.
