Non-Newtonian Fluid

A Non-Newtonian fluid, so named because it's properties cannot be described in terms of the concepts of classical fluids, can be created easily in the home. This example is a mixture of corn starch and water, roughly 10 parts cornstarch to 1 water. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid. Especially interesting is the reaction when it is disturbed at certain frequencies. Using a frequency generator and a subwoofer, the tub of fluid was placed on top of the subwoofer's hole, which is emitting sound at 50 hz.

It`s fun to get your hands in this stuff. When you apply pressure, it becomes solid.

Kind of looks like the movement on the surface of the sun. The sun isn`t made of cornstarch, is it? Or maybe the sun is just a giant f`n subwoofer that`s burning with a heavy metal god`s fire. and cornstarch. I didn`t do very well in Science class.

Just in case you people want to know:
Non-newtonian fluids are called that only because the fluids viscosity doesn`t behave according to newtonian mechanics.
In newtonian fluid, like oil, water, etc. the viscosity of the fluid only changes with temperature and pressure.
In NN fluids, the viscosity changes with shear stress on the fluid.

The most common (and natural) non newtonian fluid in the world: blood!
Blood`s viscosity decreases when you put a shear force on it. This is why blood beads up on your arm, but then as soon as you touch it, it smears everywhere (the viscosity dropped). the corn-starch and water example is opposite of blood, its viscosity increases with shear force.
