Some vegetarians are pussies. Some have a valid reason though. I only respect vegetarians that don`t eat meat for animal cruelty reasons. If you think I`m a pussy for saying that, you try sitting in a wire cage just big enough for you to sit still for your entire life. For many it`s not about the food chain, it`s about how we abuse our ability to domesticate.

I`ve known vegetarians that eat meat only when they hunt it themselves, or fish it themselves. At least that way the animal lived like it was supposed to.

Raising cattle for food is the number 1 cause of worldwide deforestation. The forests are removed by burning (slash and burn), which creates carbon dioxide, thus forest removal is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gases. Furthermore, tropical forest soils are extremely thin and quickly wash away, hence the land can only be used for a short time for grazing cattle before grass will no longer grow there. Thus the ranchers are forced to clear more land, and the cycle goes on and on. Once the soil washes away, the tropical forest is never coming back, not in your lifetime, not in your kids, nor in their kids. Moreover, many powerful and effective drugs have been extracted from tropical plant species, and if we burn down the forest, it`s like burning down a pharmacy full of undiscovered cures. So, vegetarians don`t have to be concerned at all about animal cruelty. In fact, they could easily be very self-centered and only care about human well-being. There are plenty of sound, logical reasons why being vegetarian is a wise choice, and it isn`t always about "Aww, the poor little critters...." On the other hand, things like "I just like meat," or "vegetarians are dumb," or "humans are `sposed ta eat meat" are not very well thought out. Afterall, humans are supposed to use their brains, no? Having a brain means we can choose not to do what we have been doing, even if we have been doing it for millions of years. Just pay attention and educate yourself a little.
