Prague- A 32-year-old man shot himself to death in the centre of Prague today after an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the police who were pursuing him, police spokeswoman Eva Brozova has told CTK.



The police are now enquiring into the dead man`s identity.

According to the server Nova.cz, he may be the robber who has attacked and robbed banks in Prague in recent days.

He started escaping from the police after they asked him to produce his ID within a routine check in a Prague gambling room.

Originally the man told his name to the officers, who, however, found it to be false. When they asked him to produce his documents, he ran away, threatening the officers with a gun.

Pursuing him, one of the officers shot him in his leg, after which the man aimed his gun at himself.

The officers reportedly tried to talk him out of the suicide, but in vain.

As the case involved police shooting, it will be investigated by the Interior Minister`s Inspection, Brozova said.


Czech police raids end in suicides only rarely. Today`s case is the fifth since 2000 when the pursued man killed himself.

The last similar case occurred in July 2004 in Havlickuv Brod, east Bohemia, where a bank robber, caught by a police patrol, killed himself with a grenade.

if you watch it closely, you dont see any of the police officers shoot, So really, who knows, maybe the one officer that went off camera for that split second shot, maybe the guy actually shot himself. lets leave it up to the interior minister to figure that out, oh btw, just because it involves police doesnt mean the police shot him to death

at 30 seconds when the camera is on the cops and they all jump, thats when he killed himself.

edit: also, its not like there was a live crew editing this as it happened. there`s still that camera angle where you would see it, they just didnt show it.

On first viewing i was pissed off cause i thought they wasted an unarmed guy casually walking towards them but on second viewing you see him withdraw his gun and turn back on them.
I`m sorry for the crim but anyone advancing on a cop with a weapon drawn is either intent on murder or suicide. Despite the deluge of abusive cop vids these days, these guys are blameless.

U could clearly see he was shot in the thigh at :14 when he turned around with gun`s drawn. Dude limped his left leg as he was going down. At :30 he shot himself, that`s y those police jumped. Europeans are not trigger-happy like Americans and in this case it`s totally justified.
