Yep , that's tradition .

It happens among many highland tribal cultures around Caucasus . In Chechnya in particular . They just like to kidnap people for ransom for years in Chechnya . It is a serious business . Kidnapped people may be released for ransom or become a slave for some fucked up tribalistic islamist .

In Georgia , Armenia and other countries it is just an act . The bride and her future husband love each other and as a rule , young man has to steal her the night before wedding , everybody knows about that , it is planned and it is just an act for more fun .

In Chechnya it might be other case , since they are much more tribalistic then other cultures around Caucasus . I wouldn't be surprized if that was real .
