watch out! there's a thieving raccoon about!
it was a morning like any other for stephanie king as she woke up and went into her bathroom to prepare for school. the girl had no clue that something bandit-like lurked above her.suddenly, with the deft quickness of a ninja, a mother raccoon silently sprang from the bathroom ceiling. no sooner than the creature shocked stephanie with it's dramatic entrance from the ceiling, it took fortification in young stephanie's bedroom, defying any on-comers."animal control came out to get it and they couldn't catch it and they said we couldn't go in my room," said king, a 13-year-old student at osceola middle school.with animal control workers defeated and unable to capture the ninja-raccoon, stephanie was unable to go into her bedroom to get homework for music class. "i explained that the raccoon fell from the ceiling in my bathroom and it ran into my bedroom," said the girl.stephanie's grandmother, natalie king, had to call in and vouch for the story. "i told them she can't get her homework, her books, because everything is locked in the bedroom," natalie king said.further investigation revealed that an entire family of raccoons had been living in the ceiling, and a leaking roof was responsible for the mother raccoon and babies' hideout being exposed when the ceiling caved.a joint-effort by the pinellas county animal services resulted in the mother raccoon finally being caught in a trap the following night.source
