earth is currently in a period of warming. over the last century, earth's average temperature rose about 1.1 f (0.6c). in the last two decades, the rate of our world's warming accelerated. scientists predict that the globe will continue to warm over the course of the 21st century. is this warming trend a reason for concern? after all, our world has witnessed extreme warm periods before, such as during the time of the dinosaurs. earth has also seen numerous ice ages on roughly 11,000-year cycles for at least the last million years. so, change is perhaps the only constant in earth's 4.5-billion-year history.

a call by nasa for donations of urine so it can create the perfect space lavatory has been leaked, resulting in a flood of offers. the us space programme said it was seeking urine from workers at the johnson space centre in houston, texas, as part of its work on the new orion space capsule. the orion will eventually take astronauts to the moon, according to an internal memo posted on the web site nasawatch.com. designers of the orion, which will park unoccupied in space for up to six months while astronauts work on the moon, have to solve a pressing issue of getting rid of stored urine, said john lewis, nasa's head of life support systems for orion. to design, build and test the systems, nasa needs nearly 8 gallons of urine every day - about the total daily output of 30 people. "urine is a mess because urine is full of solids," mr lewis said. those solids clog the venting system for dumping urine which meant keeping the waste disposal system clear is "really a challenge," he added. nasa has a long-standing tradition of collecting samples from its workers to help design better space toilets because "you can't make fake urine," mr lewis said. the memo seeking daily contributions from july 21 to july 31, contains detailed instructions for participants, but was not meant to go public. it requests donors do not drink too much to encourage urination, warning that "you are not encouraged to over-hydrate as this could dilute the urine we collect". "unlike in the doctor's office, you do not need to worry about starting collection midstream," the memo states. "our testing will be much more accurate if you collect as much of the entire urination as possible including the beginning." it also calls for urine to be fresh, no more than an hour old. "we suggest that morning urine be collected at home, but not night-time urine," the memo states. source
virgin galactic has huge wads of cash and nasa has lots of research chops, so the two plan to combine those strengths to develop this hypersonic plane that could go mach 5, taking you from new york to la in about 45 minutes. this kind of point-to-point speed is nothing new for the u.s. space agency, which has already tested a scramjet that can go twice that fast, hitting 7000-mph. the idea here is to make this super speed more financially feasible, opening it up to you and me. the proposed space plane will be able to reach 3500-mph by flying up to 95,000 feet and higher, where there's very little air to slow it down. what, is this like that spacecraft we mentioned earlier that uses magnetic fields to move? nope. this scramjet technology, which nasa has already proven to work with two test flights, compresses air into the plane's engine by using the shock waves developed by such intense speed. once the plane gets up to supersonic speeds, this scramjet technology takes over, and it requires no moving parts. source scifi.com
this event occured during a live nasa broadcast in 1997. a 12-mile long, multi-million dollar experimental tether, which was to be used for towing and placing satellites in orbit, broke. soon after, hundreds of flying objects swarm the scene. nasa claimed the objects were ice particles that were close to the camera and out of focus, but this theory has been disputed by numerous ufologists, as the "ice particles" seem to pass behind the tether rather than the foreground, indicating that they are not close to the camera. all of the objects are also, strangely enough, the exact same shape and some of them seem to pulse with energy. watch the whole incident and judge for yourself.
in the past few years nasa reluctantly released some footage of possible ufo sightings. in most cases they clasify these sightings as "ice crystals". it would be right to comment that the images seen here would raise a lot of questions and cause concern to many that we are being monitored by other life forms. these kind of images should be best deciphered by the viewer.
