manchester, iowa — authorities in northeast iowa say a man faces charges accusing him of cutting a pacemaker out of his father's chest. the delaware county sheriff's office issued a statement sunday saying 32-year-old jesse fierstine struck his 63-year-old father, charles fierstine, on the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood saturday. the sheriff's office said jesse fierstine then used a pocketknife to cut the pacemaker out of his father's chest. the statement said the younger fierstine was charged with attempted murder. charles fierstine was taken to university of iowa hospitals and clinics in iowa city. officials didn't give details on his condition sunday. the sheriff's office said the deputy investigating the case was not available for comment. source have any interesting articles you'd like to share? article request thread.
davenport, iowa - an iowa man faces child-endangerment charges for allegedly chaining his 14-year-old son to the bumper of a car. the man's brother was charged with assault. the 37-year-old davenport man said he was just trying to prevent his son from running away. both men said they were just trying to protect the boy. "yeah it may have been a little outrageous and out of control, but i was trying to protect him from people i don't want him hanging around with," said richard collins, father. collins said his son, who has an amputated arm, ran away on sunday and was picked up by police. on the way home, collins said his son tried to punch him. ''he decided he wanted to swing and throw punches at me, and i opened-hand smacked him and said, 'you ain't gonna hit me," he said. back at the house, collins said his son trashed his room and broke a window. that's when his brother, james collins, had the idea of restraining him to the bumper that was not attached to a car. ''the chain was loose," said said james collins, uncle. "the marks on his ankle, he did himself by pulling on the bumper." his father said his ex-wife has legal custody but their son had been staying with him. ''his mom gave him to me, cause she can't handle him," he said. the 14-year-old has since been returned to his mother. his father remains unapologetic. source
bakersfield, calif. -- "it was pretty bizarre," said neighbor ramon rodriguez. rodriguez was one of the first to discover 34-year-old angelo mendoza on april 28 after police said mendoza bit an eyeball out of his 4-year-old son's face and ate it. "the guy was crazy. real bug-eyed; he had to be on drugs," said rodriguez. court documents said neighbors checked on mendoza's son, angelo jr., after they noticed the father acting nervously and fleeing from his east bakersfield apartment in his wheelchair. inside, they found little angelo naked and bleeding. police said the boy had numerous bites to his hands and his eyes were swollen shut. doctors said the boy's left eye and muscle were completely missing. his other eye was mutilated beyond repair. the boy told them, "my daddy ate my eyes out." rodriguez said meanwhile mendoza approached him at a neighbor's vacant house down the street. rodriguez said the boy's father wheeled himself into the front yard and asked rodriguez to play with him and a pet dog. he was wearing boxers and a sweater. when rodriguez refused, mendoza got off his wheelchair and dragged himself into a back yard, where he found an ax. by then mendoza had stripped naked. he chained himself to a tree in the back yard and began hacking at his leg with a pickax while yelling incoherently. "he told me to look into the sun and pray with him. i was kinda scared for a minute," said rodriguez. then rodriguez jumped on mendoza and wrestled the ax away. "as soon as i grabbed the ax he tried to bite me, and i had to hold him down with my knee. there was dry blood around his mouth. i don't know if it was his own, but i'm pretty sure it was his son's now that i hear the story," said rodriguez. the police report said mendoza appeared to be under the influence of pcp. rodriguez said had he known about little angelo, the outcome would have been different. "i would've just let him cut his leg off. what happened to his son is not right. i would've left him alone," said rodriguez. mendoza was arrested on charges of torture, aggravated mayhem, and cruelty to a child. the toddler is now in the custody of child protective services. mendoza is due in court may 20. his bail is set at $1 million. source
article submitted by henri. a 73-year-old austrian man has confessed to imprisoning his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering her seven children, police have said. police said josef fritzl also confessed to burning the body of a baby that died after birth at the house in amstetten, in the province of lower austria. authorities are caring for the woman, now 42, and her six surviving children. police have released photos of the man's basement which show a concealed network of tiny windowless chambers. the woman, elisabeth, disappeared aged 18 on 28 august 1984 when, according to her testimony, her father lured her into the cellar, drugging and handcuffing her before locking her up. she is reported to have been made to write a letter which made it look as if she had run away. the head of the criminal affairs bureau in lower austria, franz polzer, said mr fritzl had admitted sexually abusing his daughter repeatedly during the time he imprisoned her. mr polzer said mr fritzl had told investigators elisabeth had given birth to seven children, including twins in 1996, but one died shortly after being born and that he had thrown the body into an incinerator in the building. the surviving children are now aged between five and 19 years. the cellar rooms, covering an area of approximately 60 sq m (650 sq ft), were equipped for sleeping and cooking, and with sanitary facilities. a reinforced concrete door was built into the wall that separated the "dungeon" from the house and electronically locked - the code known only to the suspect, who provided his captives with food and necessities, police said. three of the children were kept in the cellar with their mother and had never seen daylight, police told a news conference. the other three children were adopted or fostered by the suspect, after he forced elisabeth to write a letter saying she could not look after the baby, according to police. his wife, rosemarie, with whom he had seven of their own children, appears to have been unaware of the alleged crimes. the case came to light when the eldest of the children in the cellar, 19-year-old kerstin, was seriously ill and had to be taken to hospital. kerstin is said to be in a coma in hospital. the head of the intensive care unit at the amstetten hospital, albert reiter, said the impact of her experiences would eventually become clearer. article submitted by blizzloader. an australian man has been charged with murder after witnesses said he threw his four-year-old daughter from a busy bridge in melbourne. melbourne police said in a statement that a marine unit found the girl, darcey, in the water under the westgate bridge about 9.30am thursday. emergency services tried to revive her for 50 minutes and she was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but she died after suffering multiple internal injuries. witnesses told police they had seen a man driving along the inbound lane of the westgate freeway when, near the top of the bridge, he pulled over and threw a young child over the side. cnn's australian affiliate, seven network, reported the girl had fallen 58 meters -- equivalent to 17 storeys. it said the bridge was the highest in the city. her father, arthur freeman, 35, then returned to his car -- where his two sons remained -- and drove into the city. his vehicle was found there about 90 minutes later and he was arrested nearby, seven network reported. police said freeman was in an "agitated state" and later described him as being in an "acute psychiatric state." he did not appear in melbourne magistrates court when he was charged over the death. his lawyer, elanor peattie, told the melbourne age newspaper that she was unable to take "detailed instructions" from freeman. his wife and two sons were receiving counseling. source,source
a one-legged emirati father of 78 is lining up his next two wives in a bid to reach his target of 100 children by 2015, emirates today reported on monday. daad mohammed murad abdul rahman, 60, has already had 15 brides although he has to divorce them as he goes along to remain within the legal limit of four wives at a time. "in 2015 i will be 68 years old and will have 100 children," the local tabloid quoted abdul rahman as saying. "after that i will stop marrying. i have to have at least three more marriages to hit the century." the united arab emirates newspaper splashed its front page with a picture of abdul rahman surrounded by his children, the eldest of whom is 36 years old and the youngest of whom is 20 days old. two of his current three wives are also pregnant. abdul rahman said his large family lived in 15 houses. he supports them with his military pension and the help of the government of ajman, one of seven emirates that comprise the uae, which includes the gulf trade and tourism hub of dubai. islam allows men to marry up to four women at a time, though most marry only one. the uae is a muslim country but is home to migrants from around the world. source: news.yahoo.com
