a jilted lover set up a pornographic website featuring naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend in a hate campaign launched after she dumped him.

motor racing promoter alan williamson advertised the website address on the livery of his racing cars as he travelled the world to race events.

he made numerous phone calls to his ex-girlfriend and sent up to 60 text messages per night to her mobile phone.

the 42-year-old also made insulting remarks about her to business associates, and claimed she was a prostitute.

williamson's actions drove his former lover to consider suicide, leicester magistrates' court was told. prosecutor mark williams told the court: "this is one of the worst cases of harassment i have ever encountered. "there is not a single shred of credible evidence to support any of the claims. i cannot emphasise enough the gross impact this has had on her - she became a social pariah and, at one point, considered taking her own life."

williamson, who admitted five counts of harassment, did not go to prison because magistrates heard he was suffering from a severe mental illness. instead he was ordered to pay £300,000 court costs and pay £5,000 to his former lover.

the court was told williamson, formerly of great glen, and his ex-girlfriend ended their relationship in december 2004, after he refused to get psychiatric counselling.

mr williams said trouble began "immediately". he said: "williamson travelled all over the world, making insulting comments about the complainant at premises such as garages and hotels where she was known."

in february he set up a website, which included a picture of them "in a very passionate and intimate position".

mr williams said: "when the police enabled the site to be blocked, he set it up again from a base in the usa."

representing williamson, imogen cox said that when she first met him she had concerns about his mental health. he was discovered to be suffering from bi-polar disorder and believed that everything he was doing was justified.

williamson, who now lives in west yorkshire, is now on medication for his mental illness. he was given a three-year conditional discharge and a restraining order not to contact his ex-girlfriend or anyone else involved.

concord — a local pilot suspected of harassing his former girlfriend for more than a year was arrested wednesday evening on suspicion of felony stalking and violating a restraining order after he flew a plane low over the woman's house, police said.

tom huey of concord was taken into custody shortly after landing his beech single-engine plane at buchanan field airport at 6:40 p.m.

according to sgt. tiffiny leftwich, police were waiting for huey after they received a dozen complaints from residents around the canterbury village neighborhood that a small plane was flying low over their homes.

leftwich said the pilot's target for harassment was his ex-girlfriend, who lives near the area.

"it began back in april of 2008," leftwich said. "that's when our investigation started."

reports of a low-flying plane circling residential homes in concord stopped for several months after july 2008. but the complaints resumed earlier this month.

the alleged harassment against huey's ex-girlfriend then took a new turn last week when several leaflets — which included racial slurs and identified a female resident by name — were found near her home. police at the time were unable to confirm the leaflets were dropped from a plane.

huey's ex-girlfriend had filed a restraining order against him in july 2008 but was unable to serve him until wednesday afternoon. that is when two members of the concord police departmentmet huey at the concord airport and served him with the papers ordering him to stay away from his ex-girlfriend.

leftwich said huey gave no indication he would act out once receiving the restraining order and even told officers his plane, which he usually housed in a hangar at the airport, was down for repairs.

reports of a low-flying plane started coming in a few hours later. the community blog claycord.com alerted its readers, several of whom live in the canterbury village area, to capture the plane on film and contact the faa.

after eight passes over the neighborhood and 12 complaints made to the police, the plane landed and police were waiting.

huey was booked at county jail in martinez and his bail was set at $155,000.

a spurned ex-wife started a fire at the second marriage of her former husband which killed 43 women and children, according to police sources in kuwait.

maids saw the woman, 23, pouring petrol over the marquee in which the women's celebration was taking place in a town west of kuwait city.

she was later arrested and made an immediate confession saying she was upset over her "bad treatment" from the groom, who had divorced her.

colonel mohamad al-saber, spokesman for the interior ministry, said: "we have identified the perpetrator, who confessed to committing the crime for personal reasons."

the fire, on saturday evening, took hold at immense speed, spreading through the flammable upholstered seating and consuming the wedding tent in three minutes.

"there were a couple of hundred women in the tent," abdullah al-zafeeri, whose mother and sister are among the injured, told local reporters. "i heard the women screaming. some children died in the arms of their mothers."

many of the women and children, who were segregated from the men in separate parties as is conventional for gulf wedding ceremonies, died after being caught in a stampede for the marquee's only exit.

rescue services were impeded by the fact that the tent had been erected in a narrow space between residential complexes.

police were forced to conduct dna tests on the remains in order to try to identify them. photographs of the scene showed charred wreckage of tables and chairs, and rows of shoes burned into the ground.

the names of the dead, and of the bride and groom's families, have not been released in accordance with local sensitivities. but local observers said the couple were both members of the extended al-anzi family, who come from a traditional area of western kuwait where many bedouin desert tribes have settled in recent decades.

the bride was said to survived the blaze, since she was still being prepared with make-up and henna and had not yet arrived at the banquet. but her mother and sister were believed to be among the dead. the 23-year-old woman detained over the fire was also said to be an al-anzi.

the woman has yet to be brought before a court, and her fate is unclear. the death penalty is in force in kuwait, including for women, although the emirate can offer leniency in the case of mental impairment.

"it all depends on her lawyers and what she tells the court," one source said. "but i think she is bound to get a big sentence, maybe even the death sentence, as the toll is so big. too many people died."

clearwater, fla. (ap) — a former high-ranking scientology official who handled the case of a mentally ill member who died under church care ordered the destruction of incriminating evidence to cover up missteps, a newspaper reported monday.

the ex-official and church defector, marty rathbun, had for years insisted the church did nothing wrong in handling the case of lisa mcpherson's death on dec. 5, 1995. but he recently told the st. petersburg times the church botched the woman's case from the start.

the church dismisses rathbun as a bitter former member who inflated his importance. the church said he had been demoted in 2003; he left in 2004.

rathbun said he initially wanted to go to the state attorney's office after the 36-year-old's death, but he instead followed the church's culture to never admit fault. he and others removed papers from mcpherson's files, including a caretaker's opinion that the situation was out of control and the patient needed a doctor.

"i said, 'lose 'em,' and walked out of the room," rathbun told the newspaper.

mcpherson's death prompted investigations, lawsuits and has remained a talking point among scientology critics.

a wrongful death case was settled with mcpherson's family in 2004 under undisclosed terms. and while investigations brought charges of criminal neglect and practicing medicine without a license, they were later dropped when a coroner changed the cause of death to an accident from undetermined.

state attorney bernie mccabe said destruction of evidence charges would have had to be brought within three years of the crime and that the investigation into mcpherson's death was over.

"the whole thing was done wrong," rathbun told the newspaper. "i can't tell you what a technical crime this was."

church spokesman tommy davis said he couldn't specifically comment on many of rathbun's claims because of the settlement.

"what he's been saying — there's so many lies you can't believe anything at this point because he's been lying so much," davis said.

mcpherson joined scientology at 18 in her hometown of dallas and moved to the church's spiritual headquarters in clearwater.

on nov. 18, 1995, she was involved in a traffic accident and soon became frantic, according to the newspaper's report, stripping off her clothes and walking along the street. she was taken to the hospital, where doctors discussed having her committed for psychiatric evaluation. but scientology opposes psychiatry and psychiatric drugs.

according to the times, about 10 church members went to get her and she signed out against a doctor's advice. she was brought to the church's fort harrison hotel.

for 17 days, mcpherson was kept in a room where church officials tried to calm, feed and medicate her, keeping logs of what transpired.

she slapped and screamed at the caretakers, babbled and vomited, the newspaper reported. as she spiraled downward and lost about 12 pounds, a church doctor who was unlicensed in florida phoned david minkoff, a fellow scientologist who was a licensed doctor in the state. minkoff said mcpherson should be taken to a hospital down the street.

the scientologists feared mcpherson would be exposed to psychiatric care there and drove 45 minutes to a hospital where minkoff was working. minkoff pronounced her dead upon arrival.

other revelations in the newspaper's three-part series revealed that mcpherson had achieved "clear" status, a designation that means they are free of painful trauma and unwanted feelings, just weeks before her mental breakdown and death. the designation comes through auditing, scientology's trademark counseling sessions.

the newspaper earlier reported that the leader of the church of scientology, david miscavige, struck his subordinates numerous times. the church denied the allegations, saying they are lies in an effort to tarnish miscavige, who has led the church for more than two decades.

tx-- a pasadena woman angered when her former common-law husband took back jewelry he'd given her returned the gesture, police said, taking goldfish from his apartment — then ate them.

the two had argued over jewelry he had given her but then took back, pasadena police department spokesman vance mitchell said. when the man refused to return the jewelry, she took seven goldfish from his west pasadena home to her apartment, mitchell said. the man called police.

officers went to the woman's home to see if they could retrieve the fish.

“she said, ‘they're in there,' and pointed to the kitchen,” mitchell said.

finding a plate with four fried fish, officers asked where the others were. the woman answered, “i already ate those,” mitchell said.

because the fish were bought when the couple lived together, they were considered community property, he said.

“there was nothing we could do,” mitchell said. “if he wants to pursue it, it's a civil case.”
