Video:Spiked Domain Registrar Issue

spiked domain registrar issue

our apologies for the recent downtime related to spikedhumor's domain.

the problem was related to our domain name registrar claiming that our contact information was invalid upon renewal (not true since we even double-checked its accuracy) and yanking the domain without notice.

we realize the trouble this has caused our members and the spiked staff is upset tenfold. we confronted the domain registrar about the unfair treatment to give them a piece of our mind and we have since moved to a different domain name registrar, never to do business with the previous company responsible for this.

once again, our apologies go out to everyone who was affected by this. we can assure you that this won't happen again on our watch! thank you kindly for your patience and understanding...

Video:US Blocks .XXX domain

us blocks .xxx domain

icann, the internet regulatory body, had plans for an .xxx domain specifically for adult content. however, yesterday the vote was 9 to 5 against the domain.

the idea behind the .xxx domain was that it would be easier to keep adult content from other domains, so that no one would inadvertently stumble upon sex sites. the counter argument was that this domain would legitimize pornography. and the porn industry thought it might lead to censorship, and proposed a kid-friendly domain in its stead.

representatives of the eu have accused the us of politically interfering with icann.

just days before the vote was to take place, the us government stepped in with objections to the domain which the government received from both conservative groups and pornography sites. the vote was subsequently delayed.

the eu and the us have battled before over icann. the eu claims that icann is deliberately slow in introducing non-english language domains, giving more attention to english language domains. last year, the eu lost the struggle to gain power over icann, now still controlled by the us.

icm, who came with the proposal, can still object to the decision by icann.

world's most expensive domain name for sale

the days of the get rich quick internet schemes are all but dead – except for one enterprising domain name seller.

twenty-five-year-old internet entrepreneur andres kello is hoping to make a mint by selling the rights to therecordbreakingdomain.com for $7,500,001.

just to prove he’s not price-gouging, the cost is only one dollar more than what the current record-holder, business.com, paid in 1999.

kello figures he could have set the price higher at $10 million to give the buyer a larger buffer zone from someone trying to topple this record, but he says there’s little chance another record breaker would come along so soon because “domains today don’t sell anywhere near $7.5 million.”

kello doesn’t expect to sell the rights to the domain name immediately. he predicts it will be sold around 2008 because he claims potential buyers will sit back and wait to see just how much publicity the site will generate before they buy.

spiked domain registrar issue continues

as a follow-up to the previous dns notice, we've got some good news and we've got some bad news.

the bad news is: there are still traces of our previous dns floating around, causing spikedhumor and/or its forums to be inaccessible at times. we're just as annoyed as you are!

the good news is: the old dns should be flushed completely out of our tubes by tomorrow!

if you experience a dns error when trying to visit any site on spiked, try clearing your internet cache and any spikedhumor.com cookies from your browser. this normally solves the problem, but not always.

although tomorrow is our eta for resolution, success will depend on technical matters beyond our control.
once again, we're grateful for your patience while we get nestled into our new dns!
